This is an old projector and 8mm movies we found were probably taken in the late 1940's thru the 1960's. We inherited this projector and would like to see what is on some of the films. This is an old projector and 8mm movies we found were probably taken in the late 1940's thru the 1960's. I found a web (D'Antiques Movie Projectors ) site for an 482a projector which is almost identical to the 481a projector. It had the information I needed.
You also dalled and provided a toll free number at which I may be able to purchase an owners manual.
The Bell and Howell Model 456 Autoload was made that way ON PURPOSE. The last foot or so must be manually pulled from the projector. As described in the manual, "this safeguard has been designed to prevent the end of your film from flapping against the projector after your movie is completed."
If the entire film was going into the take up reel at the end automatically, then THAT was a defective occurence. It is not supposed to do that.
Don't have the motor switch in the still position when loading -make sure it is on FORWARD. Look at the little holes in the film and make sure the film is on the same side as the little grooves on the drive gear.
PS -let the bulb cool off before try to move the projector ,the bulbs are very expensive and hard to find.
If you do use the still position to view a frame do it for just a few seconds or the bulb will burn the film. Good luck- Tom.
