When using the number pad, hitting the forward slash key gives me popup of the VIA HD Audio Deck. Hitting the minus and plus keys lower and raise the volume of my speakers respectfully. How do I turn the controls off so I can use the keypad?

A) Forward Slash: -> /
Combined with ? key. To the LEFT of the Shift key
(Above CTRL key on Right side)

Also in number pad area at Top.
To the Right of the Num lock key.
(Number pad area is right side of keyboard)

B) Back Slash: -> \
Combined with Colon key ( : )
To the LEFT of number 7/Home key, in number pad area on Right.

C) 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 0; then Hash ( - ) key.
Combined with Underscore ( _ )

.....and slash out it's batten are not there...........

Believe Forward Slash is your slash out.

To type a slash going from the lower left to the upper right (like this / ), hit the key to the right of the full stop key on your keyboard. To type a slash going from the lower right to the upper left (like this \ ) hit the key to the left of the z key on your keyboard.

The kind of slashes used in web addresses are forward slashes, that is going from lower left to upper right e.g. http://www.fixya.com/

The forward slash key is next to the right shift key and works by hitting the key. A shift key will give you a "?" mark.

your contrast might be up to much.
try this:

hit the diamond key and then the minus key. this shoud decrease the contrast. keep reapeating these same steps until your home screen is visible. hitting the diamond key, then the plus key turns up the contrast.

It sound like your "CTRL" key or some other function key is stuck on your keyboard. I would try another keyboard on your computer. If the problem goes away then the problem is with your keyboard.

Here is a detailed exemple. Hope it helps.


Some comments on the various variables (should the information be needed. If not need, please skip it.)

1.All you have to do is follow the instructions key stroke for key stoke, but enter your own data.
2. If a number is repeated 3 times like the number 55, you can enter it 3 times or use the shortcut in the exemple
55 [2nd][FREQ]3 [Sigma+].
3.If you make a mistake and enter the wrong number, use the [Sigma-] key to remove it. That is similar to what a cashier does when an item is entered twice: it is entered a third time but with minus sign.
4. Every time an item is entered, the display shows the total number of items so far. When it is finished the cashier press the key that sums up the prices to get the total. This is the role of the [2nd][Sigma X] key combination.
5. The average number of the data is obtained by the [2nd][x bar] combination. The last two key combinations display the two type of deviations.

Check the theory you have been taught and try again. If that is not the type of statistics you were supposed to do, then give more information.

I am not sure what the cross (x) means: is it a multiplication or the variable x, so I took a screen capture of both cases.

The top case is obtained as follows the asterisk is the multiplication sign to thr right of digit 9; the small minus is the change sign key the minus sign in parentheses under digit 3 and to the left of ENTER key.; the forward slash is the division sign, above the multiplication sign.
This small minus called change sign makes a positive number negative and a negative number positive, hence its name. If your expression starts with a negative sign that is the one to use. Use it also for negative exponents.

As you can see the result is -.8. Notice how the - before the dot is small with respect to the regular minus, as in the last expression.

For the last expression on the screen capture, there is nothing special, except that you have two ways to enter the variable X.

1. Press [ALPHA] [STO->]
2. Press the key [X,T, Theta, n] to the right of the green [ALPHA] key.

7.5 to power 4 is entered as follows
7.5 [^]4 [ENTER] gives 3164.0625

Other exemples (if you are interested)
Fifth root of 300 is enterd as 300[^](1/5) [ENTER]
If you raise a number to a negative power use the small minus sign (-)

157 to power of -3
157 [^][(-)]3 [ENTER] gives 2.584E-7 =2.584x10^(-7).

Yes, you are accidently hitting the touch pad.
Trust me--that is what is happening. Some laptops have VERY sensitive touch pads. If you can disable the touchpad and use a mouse, do it. (that is what I do, as I suffered the very same problem.)
On one customer, I had to actually open the computer and disconnect the pad.
If you can't disable it (many new computers have some sort of switch to disable it, even if it's a combo of the Fn key and one of the special function keys, practice better hand position--raise your seat or lower the laptop to keep your wrists from drooping and getting your thumb near the pad.
