Tv wont turn on

Tv  was on  working fine switched it off  then 4 hours later tried to turn it on and nothing happened  why is this

I went to turn on my TV Friday night and it would not turn on. There usually is a red light that is on when the TV is off and that light turns green when the TV is on. That light is not red, green, or anything. It simply isn't on. The TV will not respond with either the remote or just using the buttons on the front of the TV. I've tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, changing outlets, and leaving it unplugged for 12 hours or more and it still will not work. What is wrong? Help me, please!!! i was sitting watching my tv and the screen went blank and the green/red light started to flash red. if i try to turn on my tv the light goes green for a second and then turns red and starts to flash again. what can i do to fix this? without having to buy a new tv?
