All right, I will show you how to draw a simple function such as y=5*X 2. The method is the same reagrdless of the complexity of the function.

  1. Turn calculator ON. If you do not see several icons press [MENU].
  2. Use arrow to select the [GRAPH] application and press [EXE].
  3. In the entry screen, the line with Y1= is highlighted. If it is not, use arrow to highlight it.
  4. Press the right arrow, the highlighting disappears leaving you with Y1= and the blinking cursor.
  5. At the position of the cursor type 5 then press the [X, theta,T] key, under the [ALPHA]. On the screen appears 5X, complete your equation by typing [ ] 2
  6. Press [EXE] to store function.
  7. If you want to draw other functions, it is time to do so on that screen.
  8. When done, press [F6:Draw].
  9. If the screen does not show a lot of the function, you can use the arrow keys to pan (move the center of the graph. You can pan Up, Down, Left, or Right.
  10. You can also press [SHIFT][V-Window] to set the window limits.

SOURCE: How do I solve a polynomial equation:

Hello,

Sorry, but what you wrote is not an equation but a polynomial expression. You want to solve the equation x^4+5x^3-3x^2-43x-60 =0.

The solve( command, can only be used with real numbers.
The solve( is available through the CATALOG : [2nd][CATALOG], scroll down till you reach the command. Highlight it and press [ENTER]. The command echodes on main screen as solve( .
You complete the command by entering the expression (not the equation), the name of the variable you solve for, the initial guess , and { lower limit, upper limit} between curly brackets, and the closing parenthesis.
Exemple:
solve (x^4+5x^3-3x^2-43x-60 , x,0 {-5,0} ) [ENTER]
should give you the negative root,
solve (x^4+5x^3-3x^2-43x-60 , x,0 {0,5} ) [ENTER]
should give you the positive root.

It is implied that the expression is 0, so you should not insert =0, otherwise you get an error. Here for the lower limit is -5 you must use the change sign symbol (-) under the 3 key, not the regular MINUS.

You may ask how I knew that there were two roots when the equation is a quartic? By first graphing it to have an idea about where the roots lie and how many there are. You should always do that to speed up the search.

There is another way to zoom in on the roots: by drawing the graph and using the tools accessible under the [2nd][CALC] menu, namely the option [2:Zero]
The resolution of the TI83/84 is not good enough for this function that grows too fast, but I am inserting a picture of the curve from another calculator with a much better resolution.

Hope it helps.

Cannot graph two equations together, & trig graphs are not correct.

At first in Y editor type Y1=2*cosx and for example y2=[5*exp(-x)]-5 and then graphing it. Set RAD mode of course. See captured images

Im trying to graph a parametric equation and whenever the equation has an exponent/power in it the calculator says Syn error so i know how to graph x=2 cos T, y=2 sin T and similar equations without a...

To enter powers of trigonometric functions you must enclose the functions in parentheses and then apply the exponent to the whole. For example X1t =(sin T)^3 , Y1t=(cos T)^3 will give you a shape similar to a rhombus with concave sides. The symbol ^syands for the operation of raising to a power. The key is the one with the caret symbol ^ , and it is wedged between the xsqure and EXIT keys (third row of keys).
As regards the cotangent, use the equivalent definition cot(X)=1/tan(X).

I am entering information from a sample question for drawing a scatterplot and finding the linear regression equation. I have copied the example exactly and keep coming up with the same two problems. 1. I...

You might not see the scatter plot when you go to the graph because the boundaries are not set correctly. With the scatter plot turned on, go to "zoom" and then scroll down to "zoomStat" and hit enter. Try going to the graph again and see if the the scatter plot shows up. As for the the equation being slightly different than the examples, this is probably just the calculator rounding up the answers it gets. Good luck!

This calculator doesn't really support a solver like that. You can use Woflram Alpha to solve equations like that really quickly. Example
There are more expensive calculators that will solve these types of equations, but I would recommend just using Wolfram Alpha whenever you need a solution to a math problem.

When I enter the Regression Equation into the "y=" calculated from the Statistics that I input, it inputs half the equation into the power. Like X^(n 3) instead of X^(n) 3 which is what it is meant to be.

The regression equation can be copied automatically in a Yx variable. You need not enter it manually(?).
Example: Suppose you are performing a quadratic regression on data stored in L1 and L2.

Can i solve an equation of second degree(like X^2+2X+1) with Casio FX-7400G Plus ? If so how?

Sorry but the calculator does not have a solving routine. You can however use the graphing capabilities of the Casio FX-7400GPLUS to solve an equation f(X)=0.
  1. Graph the function Y=f(X)
  2. Use the trace function to locate the point(s) where the function vanishes (has value Zero)
See the screen capture for an example.

If you were hoping that this calculator would be able to factorize polynomials for your, sorry my friend it cannot.

I am not quite sure what you are asking...

(1) if asking for graphing y= -2/3x+2, then press [diamond] [F1: Y=] type in .2/3x +2, see graph by [diamond][graph]

(2) if asking for graphing y= -2/3x+a, where a=3x, then first archive a=3x in Home screen by [home], type 3x [sto] a, then go back to y= menu, and type -2/3x+a in Y1

(3) if asking for graphing an equation that is dependent on 2 variables at the same time, use x-y-z axis (aka, change mode to graphing 3-D by [mode]graph [5:3D]) then enter desired equation in y= menu using Z function in terms of x and y aka z(x,y)= ...)

While the graph function menu is on the display press the F3 button to display the graph you want to do. Then press the function key that corresponds to the graph that you want. If you have the manual it explains it on page 117. Kind of hard to explain it here when you can't type the buttons. LOL
