I purchased a new Sentry Safe, Model CSW 4747 yesterday. When I unboxed the safe, the safe was open, the lock handle was down, cyclinders were a little pertruding, and the lock cyclinder was popped out. I installed battteries in the electronic lock as directed. I AM UNABLE TO GET THE SAFE TO LOCK. THE LOCK HANDLE WILL NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN. I AM NOT GETTING ANY "LOCK" OR "UNLOCK" ICONS ON THE KEY PAD DISPLAY. WHEN I ENTER THE FACTORY COMBINATION, I GET AN ERROR CODE. Is the safe damaged OR defective? Am I in user error? How can get the safe to operate correctly? Should I take the safe back to Cosco and get another one?

There are several possible reasons why your Sentry Safe MS3817 is not responding to the handle or new batteries. Here are some steps you can try to fix the problem:

Sounds like you need a new battery replacement.

To replace the battery pack, unscrew the screw below the electronic lock case, turn the lock case to the right then remove it.

Locksmiths advise these Opening instructions for sentry fireproof electronic security safes. Insert the tubular sentry key into the lock to the left of the key pad. Turn the key all the way to the right until the plunger pops out. Press the five-digit factory code. The green Proceed light will come on. Pull the handle down; to crack the sentry door open.

Turn the dial to zero.
Turn the dial to the left (counterclockwise) four times to the first number of the combination (pass the first number of your combination three times, stopping on it the third time).
Turn the dial to the right (clockwise) three times to the second number of the combination (pass your second number twice, stopping on it the third time).
Turn the dial to the left (counterclockwise) two times to the third number of the combination (pass the third number of your combination one time, stopping on it the second time).
Turn the dial to the right to the last number (stop the first time on your last number).
Pull the handle down to crack the sentry safe open.

You can go to www.SentrySafeShop.com and do a search for keys. You will then be able to enter your information as listed below and they will send out a new set to you. Much cheaper than having to destroy a perfectly good safe to get into it.

For Small Chests or Files: (Model numbers will begin with 1100, 1160, 2100, etc... ): A lock reference number is required. It will be a letter, a number, a letter and number, or "blank" (no letter or number), engraved/located on the silver cylinder of the lock (right around the hole where the key goes in at).

For Personal, Home and Home/Office Safes: (Model numbers will begin with: S0, S3, S4, S5; I0, I3, I4, I5; A3, A4, A5; J3, J4, J5; L0, L3, ,CS,CSW,DA,DS,KS,KSW,MS,MSW,OA,OS,and SC): Indicate your model number and the safe serial number found on the front right-hand side of the door, between the hinges.
