my emerson compact fridge is not getting cold and the black compressor in the back is hot and everything sounds like its on and running
i cleaned off the coils i could see from the back and i dont know if that is going to fix it
also it is set to its coldest setting but still nothing

any other suggestions to why its not getting cold

  • Anonymous Aug 30, 2010

ok thanks, and just one more piece of information i noticed, when i plugged it in after letting it sit off for 2 hours or so, i heard air coming out of it for like 15 sec, then someone told me that is the air being circulated and i think thats why its not getting cold

if that sounds like a reason is there anything else i should do?

If the fridge is not cooling at all then it ispossible that the compressor is faulty with low pumping pressure or that the gas is down with low pressure.
Since as you menttioned that the fridge was turned on and it was running the whole time with the back heating- good sign of the condenser heat exchangingg- but since there is no cooling in the fridge, I suspect that the compressor is down.
I would advice that the matter is confirmed once again. So please shut the fridge down for about 8 hours and then put it on to let it run.set the thermostat to normal, see if the ccompressor attains cooling or ice formation in 2-3 hours. If there is no cooling on the fridge, You will need to get help to check the gas pressure inside as well as the compressor pumping status.
Once confirmed get an estimate with warranty on the work to decide further.

As mentioned by you ,If there is signs of fan blowing and there is a stop after some time, check the fan, if getting struck or if failing on heating up.

I just went over your comment and have observed that the compressor is hot. This is not very good as it is strugling to pump. So my advice now is to shut off the fridge to cool off. The restart and check if there is any cooling in the freezer , if not EITHER the compressor or the Gas pressure is down.

If no presence of ANY cooling, but only the coils/compressor heating up.

I dont think we need to look elsewhere as stated in my earlier statement.

The black thing on the back is exhausting the warm air, so it will feel warm but not hot. As for it not getting cold, make sure the coils are not dusty, check the temp control dial and adjust it cooler if needed. The vibration is probably coming from the condensor motor which should only run when it's in a cooling cycle.

Emerson compact fridge with freezer compartment freezer is very cold fridge nothing just warm is there any fan to blow air>> thanks

Your freezer fan unit may be frozen behind the inside wall and therefore not circulating the cold air down.
Se if you can remove the screws and back wall to check the fan unit.
Not all modeles can be repaired this way

My Fridge is getting very warm at random times on the sides and it keeps making a popping sound randomly. What do I do?

Hi Meagan, is the fridge getting warm on the exterior walls? If so, make sure condenser coil at bottom of refrigerator is clean. Some heat s normal, but not hot.

Emerson Compact Refrigerator not cold.

Make sure the condenser fan is running, it is located near the compressor and blows across the condensing coils, and make sure the coils are clean. Compressors usually do get pretty hot though. And make sure all you fans are running in the inside

My daughter's Emerson CR500 compact refrigerator completely stopped getting cold about four months after we purchased it. It would cost me $57 to ship it to CA to have it fixed, so I'm wondering if it...

My husband and I bought this same refrigerator around 11/2009 and it doesn't work now either. We too bought this refrigerator at a local target. Yikes. We bought ours for our daughters dorm room and it didn't stay working even one year. Is that how Emerson told you to handle it - by shipping that stupid thing to CA. Thats ridiculous.

My fridge is blowing out cool air but not cold air

There is several things can cause that To tested first unplug your fringe Remove the panel behind your fridge Reconnect the fridge Touch your compressor us the big black round thing on the back Does it field vibrating and making noise? If yes that means you have a bad compressor or refrigerant leak If it makes clacking noise or a laud buzz noise then stop Deftly you have a bad compressor If make no noise or vibration ones of ever First remove the thermostat and make a bridge in between the thermostat cables live the green one alone is just ground If your compressor start working then buy a new thermostat if don?t change any thing Remove the black box on the side of the compressor and you shut see thee plugs or one plug whit thee holes use a voltmeter and check for power, You shut get around 120vots between tow terminals if you have power Go to the local appliance part store a buy a ?hard star kit? if your compressor doesn?t start you have a bad compressor. If you don?t have power you need to change either your defrost timer or control board Depending of the fridge model
