My Ti-83 will not turn on, even after putting in new batteries. Occasionally some black will appear on the screen along with some symbols but it then shuts off. Any ideas what is wrong?
TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.
If that doesn't work, remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds. Replace the batteries. Does the calculator turn on now? This got my screen on and legible, but it still isn't working. Now there are black stripes going horizontally across the screen and if I use any numbers, not only does it write them in the bottom right corner of the screen, but they are also upside down and appearing left to right.This got my screen on and legible, but it still isn't working. It's beginning to sound like you're going to need repairs. But try this first: Remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds. possibly water damage... there might be an indicater of this such as one on a cell phone. behind the battery possibly, a small sticker that changes color when dampened.
