I go to take a picture and the camera shuts off but the lens are still out. I've tried to call Samsung but I get put on hold forever.

Although batteries are fully charged the lens stays in the outmost position and there seems to be no way to get it back into the camera.

This happend the first time while the warranty was still valid and I got the camera repaired for free. No it has happend again with no valid warranty :-(

    Never Samsung again!!!!!

I must buy a new camera imediately because we are making a fancy trip to Madeira the day after tomorrow and I need a camera badly.

when I try to turn on my camera it just beeps. The lens came out and the camera shut off. I hit the power button, the camera beeps 3 times then nothing else happens. I put brand new batteries in and that did not help. Any suggestions.

My Samsung won't turn on :(

Try to move the lens a bit or straighten it out, that usually works when it makes the three beep sounds.

Camera turns off when shutter button is pressed.

[source]Question about Samsung Digimax S500 Digital Camera[/source]
Try replacing batteries (high Ah photographic type).
The lens motor & electronics may be draining power if Ah capacity has dropped too low. At night, it could be that your flash is trying to fire (another drain), or shutter timer / mirror staying open longer.

It wont turn on, And the zoom is extended.

I had exactly the same problem. Lens stayed open, when powered on you get three beeps and nothing. I found when I pulled the lens out a little harder it gave a little click. When I powered on it worked perfectly.

Will not turn on

Sounds like your lens is stuck. Try a gentle tug and it should open all the way. Then you can power your camera down.

The lens doesnt close and when i turn the camera on it bips three times and the screan shuts off. the lens wont close.

The batteries need to be changed. The digital batteries sold at the stores die out too fast. I had this same problem. In result, I purchased rechargeable battieries.

Shutter delay

If you have installed optional expanded memory, you may notice a delay between the time you press the shutter button and when the camera beeps. You can reduce this delay by pressing the button down halfway, holding it as long as necessary, and then pressing it down the rest of the way when you are ready to take the picture. The reason for this two-step shutter is to save battery power. After a picture is taken, compressed, and written to memory, the Sparc CPU shuts down to save the battery's power. When the shutter button is pressed halfway, the Sparc wakes up and stays in the ready state until the user presses the shutter button the rest of the way. Besides the delay in waking the Sparc, there is a variable delay which occurs prior to the Sparc being in the ready state. This delay is dependent on the amount of free flash memory.
