Lower the tailgate and there is usually two screws holding the tail light into the body. Remove the screws and pull on the tail light, if it does not come out take a screw driver and gently try prying on the tail light. Make sure there are no more screws holding it. Once you have the tail light removed twist the socket out and remove the bulb. Go to the auto parts store buy bulb. Replace it in the reverse order but do not put your fingers on the glass of the bulb because they are halogen bulbs and you could damage the bulb.

In a lot of cases on modern motors i just remove the whole light ,its easier most of the time and this is a pick up so the chances are it sealed light and access can only be gained by removal

SOURCE: 1998 Cavalier rear turn signal doesn't work

The turn signal switches are known to go bad, try to use the turn signal switch and jiggle the lever after clicking to the left turn. Replace signal switch assembly.

Changing the rear turn signal bulb

Some bulbs are really tough to remove on this car. Specially the front side lights. You have to first remove the panel in front of the tires. Hope this helps.

Right turn signal

check that you have used the correct bulb for replacement as some bulbs have 2 connections and some have 1 and are not interchangeable.

The front turn signals on my 1998 Ford F150 blink rapidly, while neither of the rear turn signals will come on. What could the problem be ?

Try changing the rear bulbs. The fast blink is the systems way of letting you know a bulb is out.

I do have to ask if all 3 brake lamps work, it is the possible but not probable column that both rear 27 w elements ( stop / turn ) go out at the same time.
