K17A Pioneer DVD-RW - Won't recognize blank CD

Plays Music CD and saves to Hard Drive just fine. But if I want to burn anything - when I put in a blank disc it tries to read it- ejects it and asks for a blank CD.

Tried all the CD creator programs installed(Windows, Yahoo, Toshiba) and downloaded a few more- same result. Re-installed software + tried different brands of blank disk - no change.

Even in 'My Computer' it shows the drive is empty. Actually in one menu it shows the blank disk w/ 0 free space. HELP!! Thanks. Jon E

Then might have a problem,if is it still in warranty you should return it to your dealer(have you tried formatted the blank cd first?many programs such nero or alcohol gives that option)

First check the program you are using has selected the dvd-rom drive on pc.
If its selected and its still a problem then try changing to different brand of blank DVDR . I have used Tuffdisc , Bulkpaq, Datasafe, and Verbatim and few others on similar model Pioneer DVD writer and it works fine.

Check to see if there is a firmware fix from Toshiba, if not replace CD/DVD Rom drive

DVD-RW drive burns music CDs and DVDs, but not data CDs

Alright. Seems like Windows, for some reason, doesn't think your drive is able to burn things when trying to deal with this kind of disc.

I'll need further information, like if you use another program to burn music CDs, and what other things might have changed the registry settings. I know of a fix that resolves issues with the Windows version of data CD burning, but it only applies to CD-R and CR-RW drives..

Hi,
Whichever program your using to read-write.
Open it up as if you were going to create a cd or dvd.
There should be a tab, to find your drive properties.
check to see which formats of disk the drive can read or write.
Alternatively get a Pioneer D112.
They,ll read just about anything you put in them.

LG LS50 DVD/CD-RW DRIVE won't recognize blank dvd-r

Yes does not read DVD-R because if your LS50 Labeled like this (DVD/CD-RW) means that can read only all DVD Disc and cannot write on DVD blank only CD blank.

You can burn only on the blank CD-RW or any blank CD.
