After working a simple problem adding numbers in scientific notation, I want to convert the answer, a decimal, to scientific notation

Does the E code look like 10.8372487489E12?

If so, the calculator is either set to scientific notation mode OR the result was an answer that was too big to display on the calculator, so it converted it to scientific notation. To convert from scientific notation back to regular notation, move the decimal to the right by the number of times after the E. In this case, the number after the E is 12, so we have to move the decimal to the right 12 times. In this case, I get the final answer as 10 837 248 748 900.

All calculator use scientific notation if the result is too small or too large. Some, like the Casio FX9750G II, offer you two Normal displays, Norm1 and Norm2 that have different limits when numbers are converted to scientific notations.
Here is how to set one or the other.
In Run>Mat press SHIFT MODE (Setup). Scroll down or up to reach the display line. Press F3 to select Norm1 or Norm2.

Sorry to disappoint you but this calculator does not do windows. The operation you require is truly basic so as to be done by hand. It will be simpler for you if you tried to understand the scientific notation.

You need to select the number of decimal places you would like, or if you would like the calculator to behave as normal. Press SET UP and select FSE (press 1) . You now have 5 options.
0: FIX means you can choose a fixed number of decimal places for every calculation.
1: SCI means scientific notation and choose the number of significant values you would like to deal with.
2: ENG means engineering and the power goes up in multiples of 3.
3: NORM1 and 4: NORM2 are the usual or normal settings on the calculator. Most school calculations will use NORM1 mode.

45 700 = 45700.00..... Notice the decimal mark inserted after the second 0.
In scientific notation you must have ONE digit before the decimal mark: 4.7500 (it is not finished).
By moving the decimal mark from its original place after the second zero to its new place after the 4, you have divided the number by 10000 (one zero for each position change). To recover the original number you must multiply 4.57 by 10000. This is compacted as *10^4.
Thus 45700=4.57*10^4 or as the calculator displays it 4.57E04
If you are entering a number in scientific notation do not use *10^04, but press the [SHIFT][,] for a TI83Plus, followed by the exponent.

Press 2nd [SCI] to switch the calculator to display all results in scientific notation. The results are the same whether you do it in scientific notation or not, it's just how the number is displayed.

It comes in the default format. If you want results in scientific notation all you have to do is configure the calculator to do so. Press SHIFT MODE to enter SETUP. Then select the SCI option by pressing the digit key corresponding to the number to the left of the option.
You will be prompted to enter the number of decimal digits that should appear in the result. Enter the number of significant digits in your calculations.

It is quite simple. Press [MODE]. Right Arrow to select [SCI][ENTER]. You can then press [2nd][QUIT] to go to the HOME screen (normal screen).
However the number of digits displayed in the decimal part may still be set by the FLOAT option. You might want to select the number of significant digits by limiting the number of decimal digits in the FLOAT option
