Programming a cable remote to the tv

I have a Toshiba tv and Time Warner Cable (TWC) service. I have the TWC remote for the cable box and I even have the manual that came with the remote. I have tried ALL of the codes and have even searched for the codes using the techniques provided in the manual. On and off I have been at this for two days using the book and codes found online... I finally gave up and tried using a different TWC remote. I found the manual online and used all the codes in it for a Toshiba tv, again using the 'search for codes' option after failing with the codes provided. Can you please help me??? -Most Appreciative

SOURCE: 30HF85 TV with CT-877 remote, which doesn't work.

I had the same problem with my remote...over time it slowly stopped working. (sorry for poor terminology) I noticed that one of the battery terminals was corroded and that the metal connecting the battery to the board was completely gone. I simply swapped this out with one from another remote and now its working fine. Seems the only issue is that the battery was not connected.

I hope this helps.

If the remote is the original Toshiba remote, it obviously should work the TV. Have you checked to make sure it has good batteries? Also, if old batteries leaked in it at any time there may be corrosion on the battery contacts keeping it from working. Make sure the metal contacts look shiny, not crusty and corroded.

If the remote still doesn't work there are two possibilities. One is that the remote is just bad. You can get a universal remote, set it for Toshiba and try it. It will at least control power, channel and volume functions. If the universal remote doesn't work, the remote sensor in the TV would be the probable cause. Like any other part, they can sometimes fail.

Cable box remote doesn't work when tv is turned on.

I am having this same problem with our Mitsubishi LCD Flat Panel TV, Model LT-46246 ans our Scientific Atlanta remote cable box, same model as yours. We cannot use the remote at all to change the channel. I called Mitsubishi and they said they have never heard of this. I find this incredibly hard to believe. Time Warner, our cable provider says that it is not the box because it works when not hooked up to the TV. What a pain. I would love to hear if anyone else is having this problem or has a fix for it.

Programming remote control to Cable TV Box

What you need to do is contact the manufacturer of either your remote control otherwise the manufacturer of the Time Warner [aka: cable providers some times also have the info on file for their customers] they store the code information within their internal systems for their customers such as yourself. Otherwise there is normally a paper insert with the remote control or the Time Warner that would list the info for select manufacturers on there. Toshiba has pretty universal IR signals/codes so you should be okay when trying to program in the codes. The manufacturers can also assist you through the steps--believe me it can get frustrating some times!
