Have an rca digital converter box model dta800b1 and a phillips universal remote can i program it so my box get the channels

Unfortunately, the RCA DTA800 does not allow you to access the record functions without the remote. You can change channels and turn the converter box on and off from the unit's front panel. However, you may be able to get a replacement remote from the manufacturer here: https://rcaav.com/shop/video-remotes/ . Replacement remotes are $10. Click on the select options button then choose Home Video and the model number in the two drop down menus.

Before you order though, check which version of the digital converter box you have. The available remote is for the DTA800B1. An alternative option is to find a universal remote that has codes for converter boxes. (This is a rare feature though. You'd need to check the code finder/code lists for that remote.)

DirectTV remote model Rc64 will control the RCA model DTA8001B1 digital receiver. Set the remote's switch to unused AV1 or AV2 position, simultaneously press and hold mute and select buttons until indicator gives a double flash and immediately enter code number 00392 after which the indicator will double flash in acceptance. Works menu and it's navigation, channel up and down, and numerical keypad.

There is not a way, unless you get a universal remote, scan for the code to control the box, and then get into the menu.

There are a lot of possible RCA TV codes programmed into the DTA800B1 remote.
Try the following three digit codes: RCA 000, 001, 005, 072, 073, 074, 075, 076, 077, 078, 135,
138, 140, 144, 150, 156, 159, 162, 163, 169, 171, 178, 229, 246, 249, 260, 274, 275, 293, 302 in order.

To program the remote. Turn on your TV manually and press PGM (to the left of the zero in the number pad section). The LED should light and stay lit. Type in the first 3 digit code and press OK (in the center of the arrow keys near the top). See if the gray volume up/down keys work to change the volume. If it doesn't work press PGM again and enter the next code.

Note that the converter box remote will only turn on and off, switch the input from Channel 3 or 4 to AV in, adjust the volume and mute the TV. It will not control any of the DVD functions. Your original TV remote will not control the converter box.
