I've noticed my Viking Wine Cellar randomly dropping its temperature to below 40 degrees despite being set for 55 degrees. The temperature read-out still displays 55 while the actual temperature is much, much lower. When I unplug and replug the unit, the temperature gauge finally starts displaying the accurate temperature.
Question is: What are possible causes for the wine fridge to be over 20 degrees colder than setting?
Viking wine coolers are made by Marvel. They all had issues with freezing the contents. If you replace the electronic cold control system it will be fine.If you don't, it will freeze the wine popping the corks and leaking in the unit.If you get the parts from Marvell they are much cheaper.
With intermittent problems like this it is difficult. In the past,we change the the cold control system and we never hear from the customer again. It always seem to solve the problem. You could take the unit back as is and it might be fine for a few weeks or so and then it will happen again.if it was my wine cooler,I would just replace the cold control system and be done with it.

Thanks. The unit has been with the repair shop for two weeks and they've been unable to replicate the problem. They claim the unit is fine. Is there anyway to diagnose this problem without actually seeing it take place?
I talked to the Viking repair shop. They said when this happened the first time, they replaced the:
Main Control Board
Evaporator famister (sp?)
Product famister (sp?)
Does that sound like they did everything they could? The issue still persists.
Thanks!
