GE dishwasher nautilus - bottom tray caster wheels come off daily.

Hi,
Our problem is the plastic caster wheels on the lower level of the GE dishwasher. We replaced them 4 months ago but they are so poorly designed it didn't take long before they started to fall off again. They are made completely of plastic, this is part of the problem. If they were made of something more durable they wouldn't fall right off. Anyone know where we can replace them with metal caster wheels?
Thank you for your help.

we have the same problem---where did you get replacement wheels? I have several that melted or broke apart.

  • limey6 Dec 08, 2008

This is a pain, you would think GE would have a better design for there dishwashers one company I saw on th net wanted $6.80 per wheel!!!!!! X 8 = $54.40 + shipping you are kidding me.

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2009

we are on our second Ge profile dishawasher. We have had the same problem. The wheels not only fall of, they melt to the heating element on the bottom. in looking at the high-end dish washers, the wheels appear to be the same. It is all ****!

  • Anonymous Jan 13, 2009

The best part is when they fall off and land on the heating coil and melt.

  • mochajojo Jan 20, 2009

A few months ago a wheel on the bottom rack of our GE Profile dishwasher would turn sideways and have to be set straight. The problem has escalated to the point that we have 2 melted wheels, 2 with cracked clips, and 4 that have to be constantly set straight. Whats up GE?

  • mochajojo Jan 20, 2009

I just found a replacement axle for 69 cents at amazon.com that looks like it might solve the problem. The new axle clips on differently...(from the outside instead of ?) Part number is the same. WD12X10277. Hope this works? Your Welcome!

Lower rack wheels trun sideways then break and fall off. A huge design flaw. Should be recalled, GE needs to do something to fix or retrofit

I finally found a solution after 2 years! Appliancezone.com has wheels and studs to fix problem. WD12x10136 and wd12x10277. About $17.00 and rack is rolling perfectly. GE wanted 200 for an entire rack, no thank you!

Easy solution. Buy some small plastic ties. Use these to tie the clip to the rack. This will keep the clip from failing. This does not interfere with the function and design of the wheel. Or just buy replacement clips and/or wheels available at various sites. Each clip costs about $1.05 and wheels cost about $1.50GE dishwasher nautilus - bottom tray caster wheels - ab4bfcd.jpgn

GE Profile Dishwasher wheel solution!
Like many of you who have posted this problem - the best solution I have found is as follows: Buy 1/2" PFTE plumbers tape ( thin white plastic tape available at any hardware store. Home Depot etc.) take the wheels off but make sure that the inner clips are still there - these house the L clip that usually locks the wheel to the rack. Wrap the PFTE tape around the rack chassis - use a good amount - at least 10". Wrap tightly with extra at the end - this is important as it will get pushed down - you want the wheel to be as snug as possible! As you push the wheel onto the rack you will immediately know that you have used enough as it will be tight - if not add more. The L clip will just be clipped on as usual - but the wheel should at least be on tight and not come off. NOTE: this is not a permanent solution, but at least it will help and stop from constantly driving you crazy. It's a bad design on these dishwashers - but hey "GE...we (used) to bring good things to life!" Hope this helps!

This may be the same problem as my GE Profile dishwasher. The molded plastic wheel on my tray has a vertical clip which is supposed to hold the wheel on. It is a terrible design; the clip is far too flimsy to hold, and the wheels drop off.

To solve this problem I used a #4 mini stainless steel hose clamp tightened around the plastic clip and the vertical tray rib it is supposed to clip to. If you are careful, you can position the clamp behind the wheel so it will not rub. This should work until the whole cheap plastic wheel assembly falls apart. The vendor I bought my all-stainless steel hose clamps from was Jamestown Distributors, who sells them 10 to a box. (I assume that all 8 wheels on the tray will inevitably fall off).

I took off the wheel and disconnected it for the axle shaft. Drilled a small hole in the shaft and ran framing wire through the hole, reconnected the wheel tot eh axle and positioned on the rack. I then twisted the wire with pliers to a point where secure and cut off excess. Seems to work.

I've always known GE is run by a bunch of ret@rds. Recently, I've purchased a brand new condo with a bunch of GE appliances. I asked the seller to remove whole god damm GE appliances. He refused. So, even though I've known GE is a POS products, I had no choice. I'm just stuck with the POS products.

These cheap crappy wheels will drive you completely mental... I took a 1/4 wide strip of duct tape,,, and used about 1" of it and wrapped it on the spindle where the wheel goes, and put the wheel back on , its tight, but the wheel spins freely....

The only good solution here is the one thats uses tie wraps around the clip. Pull them really tight with an adjustable wrench against the head and pliers to pull the body tight. They will eventually come off and need to be replaced. Eventually the clip WILL break. POS doesn't even begin to describe what ALL GE appliances are. Came with the house so I had no choice.

FAST and EASY SOLUTION that WORKS!
DO NOT TAKE THE DISHWASHER APART!!!!!
but Turn it UPSIDE DOWN
There should be a Drain Plug (if you got water there)

:
If a wheel breaks
1) use pliers to pull whats left of the plastic wheel off the metal fixed shaft
2) buy replacement wheel from Home Depot
Shepherd 2 in. Twin-Wheel Stem Casters 2 Pack
http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100082918/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053
3) use pliers one again to pull the shaft of out the Home Depot plastic wheel (takes some works)
4) attached the new plastic wheel to the Dishwasher's metal wheel shaft (if the wheel is loose, add some tape to the metal shaft to make it tighter fix)
5) your done, simple as ABC123
6) clean your dishes and smile :-)

GE Nautilus 24" Built-in Dishwasher - Does not stop filling with water

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If the dishwasher is overfilling it's caused because of water-inlet valve going bad. This valve is usually at the bottom left or right of the dishwasher, behind the lower access panel. It's the device with the main water line from the house, a rubber tube to the dishwasher, and two wires attached to it. If the water-inlet valve is defective, you need to completely replace it. Please rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

GE Nautilus

Hi Lisa in AR

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: Why won't your soap dispense anymore?

Yes, you're correct. This is best looked at by a local pro! You may want to compare the cost of repairing a six year old dishwasher now verses temporarily putting the soap in manually till you can find a good price on a new one. Personally, I loath throwing good money after bad so I go for the latter and we're coming up on the holiday discount season.

GE Nautilus 4800 Dishwasher/Shuts off/ No water draining out

It may be the motor start capacitor or the motor or the wiring to it. Some units have a built-in switch that shuts the unit off if the motor doesn't start turning after a short interval. However, if it drains it usually means the motor runs enough to pump it out. These units usually stop draining when the fill switch opens at the lower level.

Broken casters (wheels)

This is definitely something that you can do yourself. Remove the back of the dishwasher and the front kickplate. This will give you access to the wheels. The wheels are held in place with a U shaped clip. Remove the clip and the wheel will come out. replace with the new wheel.

This happened with my Danby DDW1805 and I fixed it myself. I used two step stools at the side of the dishwasher to raise it off of the floor.
