The cable or satellite box should also have a component input which is the red, white, red, blue and green cables.these will also provide hd quality

My tv is about 6yrs old and says hd ready but the sky box hd cable does not fit where can i buy a hdmi lead to fit from

Without the specifics of make and model, I can only provide general guidelines here.

1) Being HD ready does not mean that the set hasan HDMI interface.
2) You should be able to connect the set using Component cables (Red/Green/Blue). These may be marked either RGB or YPrPb.

If you can update this with the available connectors on the cable box as well as the specifics of the TV, I should be able to give you more details.

Thanks,
Dan

I have a Philips DVDR 3575H. using Comcast's

Try this set up-

Use an RCA audio/video cable for this set up (Yellow/Red/White).

Connect from the Video out (Yellow) connection on the back of the cable box to the Video in on the back of the DVR.

Connect the audio (Red/White) cables from audio out connection on the back of the cable box to the "Audio in" on the back of the DVR.

This should still get you a decent picture but not a true HD picture for your recordings.

When you set the timer to record set it to record either E1 or E2 depending on which input you connected the cable box to and ensure that the cable box is tuned to the channel you wish to record.

*** NOTE: If you keep the HDMI cable connected as you have for the cable box and watch normal TV through the HDMI input on the TV you will get HD programming for your general viewing but still have the option to record with the DVR at a lower quality. ***

Good Luck and please rate this solution....

Connecting to HD TV

This TV has no HDMI input socket. It Has a DVI input socket. Therefore you will require an HDMI to DVI converter adapter or an HDMI to DVI cable. The DVI is video only so you will require audio cables from your Sky box (Audio L and R ) which will connect to the back left of your TV (Audio L/R sockets next to the s-video and component video connectors)

Recording HD channels

well you would need to hook up cable box to dvd recorder. the only draw back first off is one you cannot get hd onto a dvd. you can down scale and it will seem a little cleaner than standard def but of coarse it will never be high def. I'm not to familiar with the motorola boxes but if they offer dvr's in your area i would suggestgetting one you can record all channels then afterwards transfer them to a outside device. but as i said before high def cannot fit onto a dvd unless you plan to copy one movie to 6-7 disc. Just keep in mind a standard high def channelcan only fit 2 max on one freq due to the amount of data transfer as opposed to 10 to 12 standard def digital channels

No sound on hd tv thru freesat

HDMI to DVI adaptors do not always support audio. You have to run seperate audio into the TV.

Hdmi cord

the HDMI cable sends all the audio and video down one line, and unscrambles scrambled high def content when required, and fits in the rear of the tv, the slot looks very similair to a usb slot.

If you cable box has an HDMI slot you can use that instead of a scart lead and choose HDMI on your tv output

I purchased a SANYO-DP46848 42"HDTV. I have a Cable box and my cable provider (Time Warner Cable) provides free HD Channels. However.... I CANNOT PICKUP ANY HD CHANNELS ON THE NEW TV. WHY???...

I just got the same exact one, when it searches automatically the first time it doesn't look for digital channels. go to Menu>manual channel search>cable. it will look for all possible signals and will take forever probably. the free digital channels will take several seconds to switch channel to channel, but they're there! They will show up on your screen as "DC 91-2" or similar. you can switch back to regular cable channels with the input button, you just cycle through all the inputs. hope that helps.

Black borders

Check the resolution settings on your cable box, you may have to call your cable provider to find out how to get into the settings menu, there is a stretch function in the settings that should make all the lower channels auto fit your screen, also see if there's a p=size button on your remote control, try pushing that when on the channels that have sidebars.
