SOURCE: mixed colors and separation of colors

Common problem known as convergence. The most common reason is the failure of convergence ics. these ics fail all the time because there big and get fairly hot. there is a possiblity that it can be reconverged if the convergence cuircit is not damaged

SOURCE: samsung rear projection tv has multiple images with differnet colors

The auto self focus screws up if the picture does not remain constant or close to it while focusing. It is designed to self focus every fifteen minutes. Go to menu and then setup and turn the auto focus feature off. I have had mine off for the past year and have had no problems. If you slide the bottom portion of the remote down you will see a self focus button. My suggestion is to put a DVD in and hit the pause button during a scene and then hit the self focus button. It should align back up and may take a couple of tries. (If you have an aftermarket remote, just enter the menu and then setup and you can activate the self focus feature, just don't turn it to auto focus!)

SOURCE: 42H83 Convergence

Yes the convergence ICs need to be replaced, however so dont the six 1.8 ohm 1watt resistors as Toshiba recomends replacing those six resistors when the ICs are changed. You can get the 50H71 / 50H82 Convergence repair kit as the 42H83 is identical to the 50H71 series, so the kit will work for your model. Heres the link where you can get the kit.

Re: Toshiba 65 in Cinema Series - 12 years old. Color Separation. Green bow at top center of screen, red and blue double images tilting upwards toward sides. Sometimes clears unassisted after set has...

projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

The colors are separated. Images are blurry and

Try adjusting the convergence. If it won't move see below- (or hitting Magic Focus for some Hitachi’s)
This sounds like convergence output IC problem. convergence board would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$400 Be sure to vote/rate me if this helped Thanks!

Colors far out of convergence, and image is warped (bowed)

it sounds like bad solder connections on the convergence IC's if you do not resolder them right away the IC's will blow out then you wil;l have to replace them. Good luck

Blue and Yellow doubles

Well, fortunately the television that you purchased has an auto-convergence feature. What is happenning is that your color lamps are misaligned, did it get moved at all recently? Anyway, in your menu you should see a "Convergence" menu, and inside that menu, a section called "Perfect Focus". Run Perfect Focus in this sequence: Green --> Red --> Blue After that your picture should look great, if not try tinkering with the manual adjustments on the "Convergence" menu. Here are some URLs that you might find helpful: (just copy+paste into your browser) Your Television On Samsung's Webstire: http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/ArchivedTelevisions_2002/HCM4216WXXAA.asp Your Television's User Manual (Download And Open With Adobe PDF Reader) (The "Convergence" Menu Is Section 3.3) http://www.usersmanualguide.com/samsung/tv__projection/hcm4216w

Convergence not lining up

Sounds like the green is out of focus. If the focus control for the green does not control it enough to make the width the same as the red, then, the lens on top of the green can be adjusted to focus that tube. On the lens, there is a wing nut on a screw to loosen it and move the lens left or right a bit to help with the focus. Hope this helps.
