Running windows 7 and now my HP office jet J 3680 takes +/- 10 minutes to print a 1 page simple excel sheet. Just printing the lines seems to be the problem. Only seems to be an issue in Excel. Any ideas?

if your printer is already, click file -> print, then do you hear the voice from printer. if not, your printer is not boot. and you said your preview is blank. you not load the page with content. I guess you don't have the right to print it. by the way, if you forgot the office password, visit this site to know how office password recovery
The problem you've described is typically caused by one of the cartridges failing. Try removing the black cartridge and printing (not copying) a test page. If this prints at near normal speed the black cartridge is at fault and should be replaced. If the printer still prints slowly then put the black cartridge back in and remove the color cartridge, then print a page. Replacing the cartridge that causes the slow printing with a fresh cartridge will resolve the issue.
Assuming the cartridges are original HP (not re-manufactured or refilled) you can check the warranty status by CLICKING HERE
Maybe the issue is not printer related. Maybe Word 2010 needs some sort of update. Windows Update will update Windows OS and other Microsoft products (I have a Windows 7 PC running Office 97, Windows Update treats it like Office 2003 and STILL updates it!).
Could be software. I have seen the last several Adobe latest version documents take several seconds to print. I have also seen increased print times with MS office 2003 Powerpoint documents. If it is a single page MS Word or Excel document and u are printing several copies of it, you should turn off the collate feature for printing of that document
I suspect that you are looking at a flow control issue and not a printer failure.
You can check the printer driver and make sure your printer options for background printing.
Also, make sure that your document is not too busy. I've had customers complain about slow printing documents and when I examined the documents, I discovered that there were multiple images overlay ed. The data still had to be sent, but only the top image printed.
Check under the properties for your printer. If you use the print selection under file instead of the little printer icon in excel, you will be given a window where properties is one of the choices. Check in properties and there is sometimes a box that says print in greyscale. If that is checked, uncheck it.
go to your printer/print settings/preferences adjust your print options there. set your dry time to less. ink usage to less and /or change your print quality to fast normal or draft. in printerpreferences select spool to printer first.
