    Hi all,

I have the similar problem as Jen1206. The error message is the same but my error code is 0xc18a0307. Is it also a hardware problem ?

oh my gosh, it worked!!!! I had bought a new hp?? but had also recently purchased a whole new supply of ink for the hp d7260 and decided I would try to repair the old anyway. I thought I had ruined it by getting the right side cover off halfway. Anyway after much research your fix worked. Thanks Because this printer is good with photos and it did not have many hours on it. Good Job

Yepp, my friend you are a genius, this fixed my printer too, against all the smart talk coming from HP reps, and service personnel. I think this is a serious shame for a company , who -regardless of the facts- makes generally excellent products. Unfortunately the "chase for more profit" syndrome finally got them too....... Too bad, not many people have the courage and the knowledge to fix it themselves.

  • Anonymous Jun 11, 2011

Thank you!!! Fixed my printer too (HP Photosmart D7360). It's difficult to get the right side off due to the "snap-in" plastic tabs but eventually the rights side comes off. Two tabs on the bottom, one on the front, two on the top under the lid in recessed holes and then there are two internal post-in-hole "tabs" where the posts will slip out of the holes when you "unzip" the right side front/bottom/top/back.

Worked Awesome, the hardest part is taking off the front right cover, i used a screwdriver and a hammer to tap the tabs in so i could open the side panel up. The usb wire is also connected to the panel. be careful removing the 2 grey ribbon cables. Go easy! It definately works. I saved some money.

First of all, your printer is "NOT" the worst model ever made, every printer that hp (as you probably noted I used small letters hp because I think hp is a small worm of a co.) makes is a problem waiting to happen. The worst of it all is that the don't care about there customers. I have a almost $300.00

photosmart that is a few months out of warranty, even though it stayed new in the box for over 6 months because of a heart attack I had. I ran out of two of the colored Inks, but continued to use the printer for word documents only till shortly after, the printer said it was unable to print till the two empty colour cart. were replaced. I continued printing all other items on my up stairs computer. About a month later, I purchased the cart. needed, installed them in the photosmart,(which I think is a oxymoron) and the printer came up with,"Ink System Has Failed" Error code oxc18a0306.

I know this is getting long winded, but it's the only way to get my point across fully. I contacted hp and after over 40 min. they told me that the error code was fatal and could not be fixed!!!!! They said It was out of warranty and would not be replaced for any amount of money besides paying full price for a replacement. ( Ya Like I Would Buy Another hp product). I have since then had the printer checked out and a small pc board with, a valve or sensor for all the ink supplies is not letting the yellow ink out of the pump to the print head. I contacted again, like a fool, hp and was on the phone for another 52.min. till they told me that part was not available..... End of story

    P.S.

I hope this story gets out to every person that had, or has a hp product and

had a problem that was not resolved by hp, besides telling the customer they will fix the problem by selling to you ,at full price another printer.....

    I'm All For Boycotting hp!

    P.P.S.

I hope this gets back to hp

  • Anonymous May 23, 2013

Just had nearly the same experience as UPRon. Worst customer service experience ever. After he told me the problem is that I need a new computer he tried to force me into a brand new one for "a good price". I am going to try removing the right side of the printer method and see how that works. Worst come to worst, my printer will burst into flames and I may be even happier seeing it that way. I will never buy an HP product again.

This error code 0xc??????? it is a new trick from HP company to take money for services without real problem in the Printer. Some error is if you exceed 2000 pages printed, or if you live the printer without one of the color ink for more that 5 days, or if you try to put back 2-3 times a old cartridge, or if you use a refilled cartridge, or, or, or, or ...... The only that they do to solve some of this problems is to make reset to the Printer or to insert a software code to erase the message.

HarleyHawk's solution work for my error, code 0xc18a0501. I am deeply grateful!

About getting the right side off, the best way is to start with the label "HP Photosmart" in the lower front corner. Take it away, underneath are two tabs. Under the top hatch on the right side are two more tabs. When these four tabs are loose, you can bent the front part of the cover out and fold the cover down with the tabs in the bottom as hinges.

  • Anonymous Jun 11, 2011

HarleyHawk's solution fixed my printer too (HP Photosmart D7360). I missed seeing JoinJoinJoin's post about the tabs and spent a lot of time figuring it out myself. There are two internal post-in-hole "tabs" in the back. The posts will slip out of the holes when you "unzip" the right side front/bottom/top/back.

Solution #2 (posted on Oct 05, 2008) posted by HarleyHawk absolutely works!! I tried everyother reset and pie-in-the-sky fix and none of them worked for my D7360 with the ink initialization error. A hint - to take the right side off there's a tab on the bottom front you have to release. Then work around the seam between the right side and the top of the printer - it's a press fit - no screws. It takes a little pressure to pull it apart so be careful but this WORKS!!!

This Worked For Me: HP D7160 Photosmart. This took me about 20 minutes, my first try.1- Turn off power and unplug from power source.
2- Open right side of printer (looking at the front).
3- Disconnect,by pulling gently, both white flat ribbon cables off the main board on top.
4- Plug in power source and turn printer on. Wait till you get a error message and push "Ok".
5- Unplug power source.
6- Reconnect the flat ribbon cables by aligning and carefully pushing into the conectors on the main circuit board.
7- Plug in power source and turn printer on (Printer preparing occurred).

*The error message 0xc18a0001 "Ink System has Failed" is now gone. It Works. The hardest part is taking off the front right plastic panel. And pushing the plastic locks in, i used a screwdriver and hammer to push them in and releasing them. Be careful the usb wire is connected too this panel as well.

It didn't get it to work for the hp c6150, but I did get the Oxc18a0206 fixed or repaired by doing this same method for the hp c7180.

The costumer bought me two printers with this problem and turns out they mixed up the magenta cartrige and put it in the wrong printer.

The c6150 must have been damaged. I'll try again after wiping the cartrige off with alcohol.

I followed instructions to the letter and the d7160 Printer did exactly as Upron said above but unfortunately after all was said and done the Oxc18a0206 error (ink system failure) persisted. I am going to try again and finally check the capacitors with a meter (after removal) from the pc board and then try the procedure again. Thanks for the post.

  • Ken Sheftel
    Ken Sheftel Oct 24, 2013

There should be a way to bypass all this and make the printer at least try to print so we can see the results and know if colors are missing, the print head might be clogged, or there may be blockage. Unfortunately this is not the case and so we have a total guessing game as to what exactly the problem is without spending so much $$$ on ink hoping the problem will go away.

  • Ken Sheftel
    Ken Sheftel Oct 24, 2013

I was fortunate in that I did not waste money on more ink as there no errors as far as the ink cartridge levels was concerned and yet the printer which hardly has been used refuses to print. What a crock HP!!!

By the way one final word...No bulging capacitors on the pc board of the printer (right side)

I have a HP Photosmart D7160 and it won't print 4 X 6. It has black marks on the wrong side when it comes out, but not picture

Try flipping the paper. Probably you need to resize the image for this size, sounds like it is compressed and squnched together into those black marks. See if you can use a preview function.

Ink not printing the same image quality that is on computer

Issue When printing directly from a memory card, the printouts have an abnormally high red tone.
NOTE: This does not affect the prints that were originally sent from the computer. Solution Press the Photo Fix button to turn off the Photo Fix feature before printing from a memory card. Cause The Photo Fix feature was originally designed to reduce/enhance printed pictures by making colors more vibrant. However, it can also have a side-effect to make some prints have more red tone than desired. In the HP Photosmart D7100 series printer, this feature is “ON” by default.
