I have a multi-function Samsung CLX-3175FN printer. I recently got a new PC with Windows 7. I've installed the Samsung printer as a network printer via ethernet cable to a Linksys WRT320N wireless router. I can use the printer function but when I try to scan something from the printer to my PC, the control panel on the printer says "Not available". I am able to scan and save directly to a USB device such as thumb drive plugged directly into the printer/scanner. Prior to getting this new PC with Windows, I was able to scan from the CLX-3175FN to my previous PC. My previous PC had Windows XP and the printer/scanner was installed as a local printer via USB cable.
I had the same issue with Windows 7 64 bit.I managed to solve it by doing the following
1. Locate the scan2pc.exe program in C:\Windows\twain_32\Samsung\CLX3170
2. Right-click/properties - Compatibility tab.
3.Set compatibility to win xp. Set "Run as Administrator"
I also added the scan2pc.exe to the firewall allowed programs (did that for scanmgr.exe as well, but I don't think I needed to).
Works great now!
Good luck!!
Helped with Samsung CLX-3185N, in addition, IP address was set as static in printer's Network settings.
had the same style of problem, aldough using both several xp and windows 7 in my network on a clx-3185fw, the problem was not the compatability, but more the fact that as from the moment the ip adress changes, it doen not on the pc's in the samsung scan management soft. what you should do is the following:
whatever win7 or xp: run from the start/programmes/samsung/scan and fax management program. try to locate the samsung 's ip, click on the found printer and propoerties, change port, search for printer, click on the found printer and confirm settings.
That did work with my problem having looked for hours and hours...
I had a similar problem. Situation: 2 networked PC's, one Vista, one Win7. For unknown reasons I would get the message, "Scan ToPc MFC has stopped working" on either PC. That PC could still print, but the 3175fn no longer even offered that destination in the scan options. No amount of re-booting equipment would re-instate the PC. Then when the 2nd PC would get the message at some other time, the USB option was the only option on the lcd.
I devised a work around to get them both recognized by the scan function. On each networked PC, Start> All Programs> Samsung CLX3170 Series> Maintenance -leave default Repair button indicated> After port search leave the default “Local or TCP/IP Port” indicated, but reinstate network port by clicking on it.
I have had to do this a few times, it's a pain, but at least I get all scanning functions back to my networked PC's
For me, opening the firewall did the trick. Curiously, when I then disabled the firewall rules just to experiment, the scan to PC function continued to operate!

I have found out that two things are important.
My setup is CLX-3175FW and Mac OS 10.6. I guess the same applies to other 3175 models and Windows PCs.
Going in to scan and fax manager and adding the printer fixes this. choose edit or whatever the option is and let it search the network for the printer. I have found out the root cause of the issue. If at any time you go into the network configuration from the menu on the printer it will wipe the settings in the scan and print manager and you will have to correct the IP.
Had this problem on XP, turns out after quite a bit off messing about that i had 'microsoft loop back' adapter installed, this isnt needed on my pc anymore, removed from devices and it worked instantly....
