Howver you can also check it on the lid. instructions are given. This should be very easy as we need to pull out the tray and replace the cartridge. signs and signals are given on the printer itself.
remove the paper jam and close the front cover and unplug the power from the outlet and same at the back of the printer, wait for 5 minutes and plug it again. this will helps to clear the error code of the printer.
Hi, remove toner out, slide cover in left side, pull out the drum unit by metal wire hinge, on top of the drum are two blue handles wich you need to realese, put in new drum, lock again the two blue handles, put it back in ( drum unit ), slide cover to right, put back the toner.
Open front cover, realese the blue toner handle, pull out toner unit, put toner crg. on top toner unit, so that arrow poits to copier. Press it and then will pop out tape wich you pull out, not to the end, when it does not go further it is OK, push back the plastic cover that got out, this will realese toner crg.Remove empty toner crg, push back toner unit and lift handle.
NOTE: when toner is empty machine guides you how to change toner on lcd display, you just need to look and press next.
E810 and/or "CHECK TONER/DRUM CRG" message on control panel.
Something is not right in the drum unit. Make sure that the drum unit and developer units are attatched together at the front and rear.
Use caution when removing, the drum is light and scratch sensitive.
If all is well there, either call a service tech or replace the drum unit

If all is well there, either call a service tech or replace the drum unit(expensive) approx. $135 for GPR 10 Drum unit.
Before reinstalling the drum make sure the Developer unit is correctly attached to the drum unit. The two clips ( Blue slides on top ) keep the two items together. Canon had two screws that were to added make sure the two stay together when removing the drum. Anyway make sure the drum is squarely installed with you insuring the rear is pushed all the way down. The sensor is located below drum near the entrance to the fuser. Good Luck
This error indicates that there is a problem with the transfer belt. Either it has failed, reached end of life ( it is a consumable item, just like toner, and needs to be replaced on occasion ), or just is not correctly installed.
Try reseating it first. Remove the imaging drum unit ( the housing that holds the 4 toners ). The transfer belt is the unit behind the drum that is inserted along the top edge of the drum cavity.
it can be a little tricky to get it in there correcty. Kind of hold it up against the top of the cavity as you slide it back towards its holder.
