Press SRC+EJECT, then RESET.

I'm not sure if this will reset it, but in the front of your navi system there is a tiny hole (below the volume control knob). It'd probably be best to use the end of a paper clip or the tip of the pen, but you could just click that and it should reset the system. If anything, the code should be 0000, at least my default code was that.

Also, maybe in the user guide can find more details.

You did not enter the security code immediately after first start-up.
Put the equipment back into the original operating conditions by pressing RESET key. Then enter the code, which is printed on your Car Audio Passport. If we have not answered your question please click on the icon to e-mail us: [email protected]

Hope this helps.

What code? if this is a personnel code, like one put in by the user then we can't help, any bypass must come from the support line of Kenwood, this information is not published on the internet fro obvious security reasons.

  • Marvin
    Marvin Feb 02, 2010

we have no information on the code here at fixya, this code was inputed by the original owner for anti theft reasons ans is not avail on the internet, sorry but that is juist the way it is, if the code bypass was avail on the internet it wouldn't be a "SECURITY CODE" WOULD IT, and Kenwood never came in any GM truck or car, it is an added accessory, u must call Kenwood CUSTOMER SUPPORT to get a work around for this probem

How to reset dnx5140 kenwood security code??

The only factory default code for these units is "5227" or KCAR. After entering this code, you would press the track forward or "FF" button. Perform this procedure using the remote. If this does not work, then you need to send the unit to Kenwood along with proof of purchase for them to factory unlock it.

I need your help to know the code its No 11201951

Here is some good info from another site (as linked below):http://www.tech-faq.com/how-to-reset-a-kenwood-security-code.html

If these methods don't work you would have to send the stereo back to Kenwood to be reset.

Common Kenwood Security Codes Many Kenwood radios are configured with the same security codes:
  • KCAR - This seems to be a "backdoor" to some Kenwood models.
  • 3051 - This is the security code which is printed in the manual of many Kenwood models.
  • 1234 - This is a security code commonly chosen by Kenwood owners.
kenwood-security-code.jpg Entering your Kenwood Security Code If the car battery fails or is disconnected, the Kenwood will ask for the security code.
The procedure to enter your security code differs on various models of Kenwood car stereos. Here are three of the more common procedures:
Type 1
  • During the code request mode, while holding the DISP key depressed, press and hold the Volume UP or DOWN key for 3 seconds until the "..." display disappears.
  • Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Type 2
  • Press the "Auto" button and "Track up" on the face of radio at the same time until the four dash lines disappear.
  • Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Type 3: Model# DPX-4020 and DPX-4030
  • Press and hold the 1 then the 6 preset keys until the display shows the letter 'C'.
  • Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.
Entering Letters on your Kenwood Remote To enter a letter using your Kenwood remote, press a button once for the first letter, twice for the second letter, and three times for the third letter - then press the Track Up or Next Track key to send the letter.
To send the letter 'A', press the 2 key once and then press the Track Up key. To send the letter 'B', press the 2 key twice and then press the Track up key.
Finally, when you are done entering all of the letters, press and hold the Track Up button for 3 seconds.

  • 2

A Security Code Bug in Some Kenwoods There is a reported bug in the security code handling of some Kenwood stereos. In models with thie bug, the security code is stored incorrectly. The workaround is to enter the wrong security code.
In models with this bug, you have to decrement the third character of the security code by one. If your security code was 1111, you would enter your security code as 1101. If your security code was 9999, you would enter 9989.

Newer Kenwood models have the security information stored in non magnetic flash memory.
Once the code is set, it cannot be retrieved by a "backdoor method".
Proof of ownership is required. You can take the radio in to any AUTHORIZED Kenwood retailer - and in 10 minutes - they can have your radio reset for you.
If all else fails, you can send your stereo back to Kenwood to have the security code reset. They require proof of purchase.

This can be a receipt, or a used car invoice.

4 digit security code reset

Here is the link for the user manual if you need it; http://inform2.kenwoodusa.com/manuals/KDCMP228.pdf Page 5 shows the reset button, page 19 shows all the security code procedures which have to be followed even after a reset. This site has a few partial methods which might be worth trying for your player but unfortunately no complete solution; http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/4/312069.html Sorry but I think it has to be a dealer - if it was so easy there would be no point having security codes at all - Kenwood says; "How do I reset my security code? If you do not know the security code for your unit, you will need to take the unit to a Kenwood authorized service center to have it decoded. The code feature can only be activated when the code has been entered twice, so it isn't accidentally activated. The service center will often require you to provide a proof of purchase as this feature is designed for theft prevention and the proof of purchase will ensure you are the rightful owner of the product. You can locate the nearest service center in your area here, or by calling (800) KENWOOD. Though we try to locate service facilities in local areas for our customers, at times consumers may be required to ship their product to the facility for repair. Once you have had your code reset, please make a note of the code and keep it in a safe place away from your vehicle." Hope this helps - sorry if bad news :)
