I have two of these televisions - we'll call them TV1 and TV2 for sake of clarity. TV1 stopped responding to the remote. I thought the problem was with the remote, but the remote still works on TV2. TV2's remote will not work on TV1 either. I'm wondering if the problem could be with the remote sensor itself since the real problem doesn't seem to lie with the remote.
If you are just replacing the IR sensor is easy, but if the microprocessor is the one defective; i would say that the part may not even be available anymore. If that is the case, a new TV will be a better option. Is the receiver in dual mode? Go to the receiver, open the door, and hit the mode key. If both TVs are still showing the same thing, then the issue is not the mode.
Go to TV 2 (the one without the receiver) and make sure the TV is tuned to channel 60 or 73. If it is still showing the same thing, go to TV1 (the one with the receiver) and hit Menu, system setup, Installation, modulation (menu 6-1-5). make sure the modulation for tv2 matches which channel you put your tv2 on.
Still showing the same thing? check the back of the receiver, the RCA cables (red/white/yellow) are plugged into the TV1 ports not the TV2 ports.
Showing different things but the remote still changes channels on both tvs? Go to TV1, hit menu twice, near the bottom there are two boxes each with a number. This is the address for each remote (tv1 and tv2). On the TV2 remote hold sat until it stays lit, choose a number different than on the screen, touch pound (#), the sat light blinks three times, hit record, the number on the screen should change to match the one you typed in.
Still being silly? Call a priest, you have a poltergeist!
Is this a newly installed system? If both tv's are responding to the same remote setting (red in case), it means both tv's are set to the same channel. The tv that is connected to the decoder directly (via AV cables, I presume) is supposed to respond to if the remote is set to red. In order for the second tv to respond when the remote is set to blue, you need to tune the second tv until you find the picture of tv2 (the decoder transmits both tv1 and tv2 on the RF/coaxial output and it seems that your remote tv is tuned to tv1 instead of tv2).
Hi there, Cheri Torres with DISH Network Customer Service here. I came across your post and wanted to see if I could help. If the old remote was not responding to your TV2 anymore you may want to try replacing the batteries first if that does not work the next step would be to try readdressing the remote to the receiver. You can try readdressing both remotes to get them to work with your DISH receiver box. I will list the instructions for readdressing your TV2 remote here for you. I hope you find these instructions useful and if you have any other questions or concerns feel free to email directly at [email protected].
Instructions for addressing the remote to the receiver
Take your TV2 remote to your receiver box location.
Go to System Info screen. You can do this by pressing the system info button once or by pressing the menu button twice on the TV1 remote.
Once you are in the system info screen you will see primary remote address (TV1) and secondary remote address (TV2).
Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.Change the number in the small white square to something other then what is already listed.
Press the pound (#) button.
Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record.
Note: If successful, the number selected in step 5 will
appear in the System Info screen under Remote Address.
Hello! If your tv just won't cycle to the correct channel you can change the setting if its tv1 you need a channel scan if it's tv2 try these steps: http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/video
The remote is an Ultra High Frequency remote and most universals are IR MAKING THEM INCOMPATIBLE.
Take the TV2 remote into the TV1 location and using the TV1 remote press MENU-MENU. You will now have a screen up that has remote addresses at the bottom. Take the TV2 REMOTE AND PRESS AND HOLD the SAT button on the upper left of the remote until all lights on top illuminate and release. Now key in a two digit number between 1-16 that is not either number on the screen currently and press the pound sign. The SAT button will flash three times now press the record button until the remote addy for tv2 changes to the new number.
You can cancel out of all of these screens with the TV1 remote. Now go to TV2 see if it works. If not try at the receiver. If it works there have Dish send you a new remote.
It could be the distance the remote is from the antenna. Try going to the receiver and pressing the guide button on said remote. Go back to TV 2 and see if it is up. If not go back to tv 1 and with TV1 ON AND TV1 REMOTE IN HAND press MENU-MENU. You will be able to see the remote addreses for the remotes toward the bottom of the page. With TV2 remote in hand press and hold the SAT button in the upper left of the remote until all buttons across the top illuminate. Now press in a trwo digit number between 2 and 15. Press the pound sign and the SAT button will flash thrice. Now press record a few times until you see the TV2 icon on the screen blink and the address is the same as you keyed. Exit out of the menu with TV1 remote. Go to tv 2 and try. You should be good to go.
Thanks for using Fix Ya.
Your shared view is enabled. , press the menu button, then option 6 then option 2, disable shared view then select done. ( this can only be done in single mode) then go back to dual mode.
Ok lets assume you have the correct remote for the TV2 on a 322, you will need to take this remote to the TV1 location . Turn TV1 on and with the TV1 remote press menu-menu. You are now at the sytem info screen. Towards the bottom third of the screen you will see some wording that reads primary remote address and secondary remote address. Now with the TV2 remote press and hold the SAT button until all buttons across the top light up and release. The SAT button will be flashing. Now key in a two digit number between 1-17 that is unique to this remote only. Press the pound sign and the SAT button will flash three times. Now press the record button and the number you chose should now appear next to the TV2 icon. Are you good to go? If so exit out of all screens on TV1 and try thr TV2 remote at its location. You should be able to control the satellite now. If you can't ensure that the antenna on the back of the receiver is present and there are no obstructions in front of it. If you still are having issues - like you have to be at a certain point in the room- the remote antenna may need to be moved from the back of the receiver to the TV2 location Thanks for using Fix Ya.
Lawrence, you have probably got a remote that needs the address changed. Go to the TV1 location and press menu-menu pn the TV1 remote. This will take you to the system info screen. Now take the TV2 remote and press and hold the SAT button on the top left of the remote until all buttons across the top light up. Now choose and key in a two digit number that is between 1-16 but is different from the number for the TV1 address and press the pound button. The SATbutton will flash three times. Now press the record button until the remote address for TV2 changes to the number you keyed in. Once this occurs you can cancel out of the menu screen at the TV2 location and go to TV2 and verify functionality. If this still has not resolved the issue try the remote for TV2 at the receiver location. If you have sucess here you will need to move the UHF antenna closer to TV2. If you need further assistance please let me know. Thanks for using Fix Ya.
So is this an easy fix or am I better off just buying a new t.v.?
Thanks so much!
