LG 42LC2D 42 IN. HDTV LCD TV SENSOR IS NOT WORKING.
Believe it or not...THIS WORKS!!!!
Look on the back of your set for an external remote jack. It should be the same size as a small headphone jack. If it has one, use a spare headphone plug or your headphones, and plug them in and out about 50 times. This will clean the tarnished contacts and make your remote sensor start working. Your remote sensor goes through a switch on this jack.
All, my LG 37LC2D TV just started displaying the same symptoms. I could not turn on the tv, change the channels or do any functions from the tv remote. Found the remote ir sensor jack and plugged in some headphones a bunch of times. IT WORKED!!!!
Thanks for this fix. Even though I am a bit sad I don't have a reason to buy a bigger tv, lol.
I have a 44" Zenith LCD. I was told I need to get a new IR sensor. My remote works but then it stops after a few minutes and then comes back on. It goes on and off for first half hour, very frustrating!! I did go look for the headphone jack, but this model does not have one. There are audio jacks that are not the same size as the headphone jack. I did try that with a different jack, but it still not working correctly. Months back I did by a brand new remote, so I know it's not the remote. Do you have any other suggestions?? Thanks in advance.
Thank you , Thank you!!!! I have a 32 inch LG and the remote stopped working. I used my mic plug-in to insert into the jack on the back of the TV. Then I reprogrammed the remote.
IT WORKED!!!!!! I had just got off the phone with the repair shop and was getting ready to take it in when I saw this post.....Thanks, Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT WORKS!
Absolutly amazing! Such a hi tech solution, they should all be this simple - Thank You!
Amazing... so simple but who would have thought to do it. It worked immediately for me! Thanks!!!
IT WORKS!!! OMAZING!! THANK YOU!
Stranger things in Heaven and Earth I guess.
OMG it works Thank You
We absolute laughed and snorted at this fix, but in desperation gave it a try. And... it worked!!!! I only plugged it in and out about 10 to 15 times because I felt like I was being hazed by the Internet... Our minds are still blown- the remote that has not worked for a YEAR now works as intended (the original fix was just to run things through a receiver, but the receiver just recently died)

To fix this problem, like a previous user suggested, take a pair of headphones and turn the TV off manually, and then plug your headphones in and out of the remote jack 50 times. Your remote should now work. This sounds crazy, but works. I had my LG LCD 37 TV for 3 years and out of no where the remote stopped working, the remote itself still worked but the TV stopped accepting the signal. I tried everything to fix it and this was the only thing that worked. Thank you so much me6666666666 for the advise.
HOLY **** THAT ACTUALLY WORKS!!! I DIDNT BELIVE IT AND TRIED ANYWAYS BECAUSE COULD FIND A SOLUTION THAT WORKS. THANKS YOU SOOOOOOMUCH!!!!
Please clarify your problem.
LG 42 PC3DV I had the Time Warner Cable Techician come out and could not figure what was wrong with the LG TV. I saw this online stuck a 3.5 earphone device into the remote in a few times and now all the remotes work!
To bad.. i have an LG plasma 42pq 1000, and it doesnt have an external remote jacket.. it looks like the IR sensor repeats the last signal what was send, until you hold your hand in front of the sensor.. any suggestions?? pls??
Same to me, it's working fine. Tanks for this information.
I have a 42lg-lcd30 and i try that simple trick and my tv is working now.thank you for those helpfull comments.
First check to see if the TV is working properly by using the buttons on the TV.
Then if you can check the remote by trying it on a compatible set. Maybe try it at the store you bought the set. If it works then you have a bad infared unit on the TV. Infrared units can be replaced.
Have a Zenith plasma TV and the remote quite working, tried the remote control on another tv and it worked so I knew it was a problem with the tv sensor. Had a repairman out and he replaced the sensor and PC board and it still did not work, reinstalled old board. The repairman said it was the big PC board and it was to expensive to replace. Paid for the service call.Neighbor then looked on the internet and found this post about remote control jack on the back of LG tv's and found out that my Zenith also had one. Cleaned the jack with a earbud plug and dialectric grease and now the remote works. Great post. Will call TV repairman and let him know about this fix.

The remote works (took it in to shop and it actually turned all the LG TV's on and off). We were told that the sensor on the TV was not working. Is this a problem that can be fixed?
