I bought a used dodge pickup equiped with a viper remote system,it worked fine until the last few days now Iam unable to start the vehicle with the key and keep it running.I took out the battery from remote but does not run still until the vehicle gets warm. Then I replaced the battery and started it and it runs ok .Anyway I can just remove a wire or something to disarm this all together.I drive a 100 miles to work and back daily and dont want to get hung up somewhere along the way

Remote starter?
if so then yes you can pull it out. It should default to able to start car normally. That's going on the assumption that it has been installed correctly. As far as the remote starter ( if that's what we're talking about). When does the car shut off when using that key? When you try to put it in gear, pressing the brake?

On many of the Viper models, the symptom you are describing is because the remote battery is low. The remote can't be too far from the vehicle. If it is, the system see it as you forgot about the vehicle being remote started, and shuts it back down. A weak battery creates a weak signal and makes the unit 'think' you are far away. The Viper website has instructions on how to disable the whole system, there are many different versions, so find the box and get the model number from it, you will need that to get any further.

Hey John, he also stated that he can't keep truck running with key. Sounds maybe the Ign wire to unit. So when he turns on the key it's not seeing the power from Ign. Been a few years since I have worked on them but I'm sure they still work the same. Need key one to put car in drive a press brake. But your right needs model number to go further on it

SOURCE: Viper won't remote start and arm/disarm only works sometimes

Greetings Microluv,

Simple question, have you changed the battery in your remote lately? I was having similiar issues with my remote start and it was a simple matter of changing the batteries in the remote.

I figured lets eliminate the easy stuff first. :)

SOURCE: Viper 791 XV Automatic Start Not Working

Try putting the key in the key cylinder but do not turn it at all. Then try and remote start the car. If it works then your bypass module is bad and needs to get replaced.

SOURCE: Viper remote starter sets off alarm.

Whoever hooked up your system did not hook up the factory alarm disarm and arm wires. Your car thinks it is being stolen as a result of this. You need to get a wire diagram of your car and hook up the proper wires.

Try cleaning the fuel pump filter. Under the seat behind the driver lift the carpet and you will find a round cover with six screws remove the cover. The fuel pump is directly below unscrew the retaining round plate and remove the pump. At the base of the pump is a small filter if it is covered in black muck that's your problem. clean and replace. job takes about 10 mins good luck. please let me know how you got on!

Your alarm may have lost the tach signal, that was learned to it, when it was originally installed. That would cause the remote start to try starting the vehicle over and over again, until it finally stays running, because it can't read the engine speed to know it's running.
If you can find the valet push button switch in your vehicle, try this; Start your car with the key and immediately after it starts, press and hold that valet push button switch until the alarm led on the dash stays lit up or the park lights flash. Then, release the valet switch, shut the car off and try remote starting it. That is the procedure to re-learn the tach signal. Hope it works for you.
