My Samsung DLP R5067W just keeps shutting off intermittently. I bought this set in 05 and started having problems last year in late 08. I took the back off and dusted the parts and it has been working since. Now it is doing it again. How can I determine if it is the lamp that needs replacing?

If you have a way to do it you can measure the current draw of the lamp, that will tell you if its close to failing

SOURCE: Samsung projection TV intermittent shut-down problem

I just called 1-800-samsung & choose the parts dept.
For the replacement lamp it cost $149.99 plus tax & shipping .
My total was 167.08 for Fl. You give them the lamp code ( red sticker on the side of the tv) , they send it out 5day shipment.Local tv repair services can install it for an installation fee. This will save money apposed to ordering through a tv repair shop who charges an order part fee plus etc...

SOURCE: Samsung DLP TV HL-R5667W shuts off intermittently

Afraid there is no simple answer to this. This set has multiple things that could shut it down, one may be the balest needs a upgrade , this could be why it seems to be eating lamps. Another is what sounds like a fan is a color wheel , these have known problems of failing, and when this happens sometimes they shut down the set. And finaly does the set have good ventalation, overheating can cause huge problems with this set

SOURCE: tv turns off after 5 sec.

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be repaired at no charge to you. The warranty would likely be at least one year from the date of purchase from the manufacturer. If you purchased an extended service plan they will repair the TV at no charge as well.

If the TV is no longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and labor. This is assuming that you only need one circuit board or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards, the price of repair could go much higher.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Not staying on

Most likely just needs a new Lamp. Should be able to pick one up cheap enough from eBay.

They are a consumable part and normally last only 2-3 years so not a big job or anything too serious.

I've had a Samsung HLR5064W for almost 5 years. Lately I've noticed when I turn the set on, the picture dims after about a minute. Is this a lamp issue??

Yes it's the lamp. I had the same issue in the middle of last year. I bought the whole bulb assembly for $220 Canadian. I'm confident that it was through Samsung USA.
I did find a site that said you could "save money" by buying the bulb only, but their price was the same for the bulb alone, as I paid for the whole assembly.
It took about 15 minutes to get the bad one out, and put the good one in.
Now I need to find out how to adjust the mirror angle...
Good luck

My 56 inch Samsung DLP keeps shutting off. I have

Once before I had this same problem and FixYa gave me the solution. When you replace the lamp door, there is a switch inside so be sure the door is put in at an angle so to hold the switch up. It solved my problem after numerous repairmen missed it.
