Replaced pump on Kenmore HE3 Washer. Problem better but drain cycle does not complete. Drain cycle shuts down midway in estimated time schedule. Any ideas? - 2 Much Laundry
I recently had a slow draining Kenmore elite heavy duty Catalyst washer that did not drain when cycle was complete. It turns out I had a clogged 2-way valve. You can find the valve by tilting the washer back the pump is towards the front conected to the motor. You will see the line that comes from the basket that is the intake side the bottom side of the pump is the discharge. Follow the discharge line back to where there is the two way valve it is covered in two pieces of black plastic one on top one on bottom. Make sure the washer is unplugged this is an electronic valve. Using water pump pliers disconnect both hoses going into the valve. Be prepared to have water come out you may want to take the hose off the discharge side of the pump it will be easier to collect the water from here. To check for lint in the valve slide your baby finger in to see if you meet obstruction you can open the valve by pushing on the lever on the bottom side of the valve it has a spring attached to it. Be sure to check from both sides of valve. Be prepared to spend a little time trying to dig out the lint I used needle nose pliers with a bend on the end of it and it took me about 15 minutes to get it all you can try a screw driver, tweezers what ever you can to get it out.

I'm not sure if this is the same model as our but I will let you know ours did not drain all the way and kept stopping, not completing the cycle. We found that if you take the bottom of the front of the washer panel off thre is a circular looking thing, it happens to be a trap for waste, sort of like the dryers lint catcher. Make sure you put something under it befor you loosen the cap water will come out. When we took the cap off, it was filled with gunk and we cleaned it out and the problem was solved!!!! Amazing because we tried everything , called everyone and not one person even mentioned we had a trap in the washer... It should be right in the center when you take the front lower panel off.. Good luck and let us know if it works for you..
Sincerely,
