After turning on my LG 42 in LCD tv the unit turns off inr 7-9 seconds! no sleeper set no auto off
Found that TV started switching off by itself. Would try to come on..green light blinked for 2-3 seconds, tv came on (with picture and sound) for 1 or 2 seconds and then it would turn itself off. Found that the issue is with one channel only. If you are facing this issue....try quickly changing the channel the moment it comes on. You can do it either with remote or with the TV buttons directly. also in the same logic, if this is still happening, try changing the source to another (rgb-pc, av1, av2 etc). Basically change it from whatever input it is on currently, if changing the channels does not work. My symptom was that the tv made a loud 'TIK' 'TAK' sound which is louder than normal.
How do you do a master reset
My 50 inch LG had this problem after a power outage. Called LG and tried the reset, but it did not work. What I did was turn on all the electronics attached to the tv, dvd player, satellite receiver, WII, Apple tv and then started hitting the input button which would take the tv from standby mode (red light) to on mode (green light) for about 2 seconds. As I flipped through the inputs finally the tv's green light stayed on as the tv was trying to reset and acquire the signal. When the green line came on I started using the remotes for the other electronics and then the tv acquired the signal from the satellite receiver and reset. Started working perfectly again.

Try doing a master rest on the TV, should help the problem. GS
Change the power cord. had the same problem with my 50" LG. switched power cords and problem solved!
Unplug everything then unscrew the back panel . Clean the dust off the mother board and wherever you see dust then unplug anything that can be unplugged then plug them back in. That should work for 9 to 12 months before you have to do it again. I bought my lg 42" in 09 and it started a year after and it took me 2 years to figure out the solution. Hope it works for you.
Wonderful info. The best, it works!!!!
You champion!!!
glad to be of service
if it happens again just repeat the procedure

The wife & I have the 42" SMART TV, model # 42LN5700 & we had this problem for almost 6 months! Bought in Aug 2013; worked fine until Mar 2014; then every few days (or nites) it would do the shut down/start up thingie. It got progressively more common (sometimes several times a nite) at which point we were both ready to toss it out...the only solution seemed to be a good solid swat on the RHS back panel just above the plug in.
(I should mention we also have a 47" LG LED flat panel that we bought in Nov 2010, & it's worked flawlessly from day 1...never a problem)
After reading a few forums like this, & working my way thru YouTube, I removed the back panel using our bed as a "workbench". Simple things first; I made sure the power control panel (RHS) and the motherboard (LHS) -both as viewed from the front, btw- were tightly attached. Every screw need at least a FULL TURN!
My fix was simply tightening the screws that attach the plug-in unit on the power control panel, where the cord plugs into the TV. This receptacle mounts at a 90 degree angle, & was LOOSE & WOBBLING on the board. Since tightening it down, we've had no more problems. Just a bad connection...
Hope this works for someone else...apparently the units assembled in Mexico have some "loose screw" issues!
I had this problem before on my LG TV. My solution is to put a 12V fan on the tuner board processor powered by AC on the power board. The problem is caused by the TV overheating and the tuner CPU cuts out because it is hot and instructs the power board to shut the tuner board off (although the rest of the TV stays on). You cannot likely get a TV repair man to fix this because the LG TV's do not have adequate heat control other than vent holes on the bottom and top. This is a design flaw that started a class-action lawsuit against LG.
It was the board screws loose that seems to have fixed the issue for me.
Check your power board
Same Prob. LG 42" turning on and off. Took off back and tightened eight screws, 4 on each board, problem fixed!!!!
This is madness!! Try getting a Mirror TV
LG replaced our 50" plasma tv. repairman could not fix the problem. took a while, but we finally have a new tv. thank god for warranties!!!

any method for master reset?????????????????
Hi all , My 55inch Led Lg is also turning off after 20 minutes or so and resetting itself ... After trying all sorts of things i have now realised it is the internet connection that is causing it to turn off . I unplugged the cat 5 connection as it was wired and the tv stayed on as normal . I tried to also use WIFI and when i did the TV switched off after 20 mins . I have now put the wrong password in WIFI settings to ensure it doesnt connect online and the tv has run perfectly for 2 weeks . We also swapped the TV over to a new one and this was still the cause when we plugged the internet in
I just bought mine from Craigslist. Go figure I'm having an issue. Lol. Anyway, it's turning off and on. I read that it may be a relay. I hear the"click" noise when it happens. And that was mentioned as a symptom to the relay being the problem. It's inconsistent. 10 minutes straight, then 3 times back to back and then nothing. Then out of the blue again. How plausible is it that it may be the relay? if so, how do I go about fixing it (I'm pretty mechanically inclined), cost, good place to buy parts, etc. Thanks. Pat from New Jersey

Same problem here. I rang LG and they said that it will have to go for a service. How did you resolve your problem?

Same problem with ours. I am curious what you had to do to fix it and how much did it cost. It appears to be a widespread issue from reviewing other sites.
We have the same problem with our LG 50" Plasma. Turns off within seconds of turning on. Thought it might be wrong cable connector, but can't seem to figure out. Any thoughts? We're calling for service.
I have the same problem with my LG LC37D. It just started this week but does not happen every time, I was able to watch TV for 2 hrs yesterday, but I am worried to watch anymore, I don't want to ruin it for good.
My flat screen has a problem . It goes blank and no sound a pictures comes back on in a few seconds goes back off and has a ghost on the left side of the screen goes off again and in a few seconds the picture comes back on again. It does this a few times then the screen goes blank.
We just hooked up Verizon Fios Hi Def this morning (9-10-08) to our 1 week old 42" LG 1080p. The off and on problem did not start until the HD cable and all the channels tuned in.. Now, it cuts off and on for the first 3-5 minutes. After a few minutes the problem goes away. Its like something has to get warmed up or the HD is searching for a channel.
I have the same problem with my LG 42" LCD anyone found a solution???
same deal, mine turns on and off, called lg, they said to get it serviced... its brand new!
turn on off on off then went off never come back on
vacuum the dust out of it.
Take off the back panel and vacuum the dust out. Mine has not had a problem since I did this.
