This sounds like the symptoms of a known issue with the DV2000 series. I don't know if they're still doing it, but a few months ago they were fixing them free even out of warranty. Read the following article by HP and see if it applies to your situation. Good luck!

Same problem--black screen

make sure it is the motherboard....try hooking an external monitor to it, to see if maybe it is the screen and/or its connections, the external works off a differernt interface.

HP Pavilion dv2000 black screen.

yep ...it seams that you mess with the grafic card ( vga driver ) ..probably on color register ..or some driver update ..and now it wont display image ...
either reinstall the pc ...and its probably the best ...or restore using cd .. cause if it was something wrong with your display ..it should work on the other monitor... it also might be a video card fail ...if after re-installation its the same ...its the video card..
if you are worried for the data on il ...just install windows without formating ...choose to install a new os in the old folder...

I have an HP Pavilion DV2000 The screen suddenly went black The drive was removed and scanned for viruses then replaced When the system was restarted the screen seems to work but only very dimly....

sure the screen is bad.
internal.
the DV2000 runs CCFL back lamps,
all go dim with age, and yellow. all do.
so can be only this.
bad CCFL lamps or the CCFL inverter driving it.
vast PCs like this are in the recycle centers. now.
endless.....
goodwill has them in piles..

HP Pavilian external monitor color problem.

The easiest thing would be to check your cable for a bent or loose pin. Next put another external monitor on the laptop. The circuitry to provide video to the laptop screen and the external monitor are separate except that they share a video processor and video memory. There can be bad electronics involved.

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

Go to this Hp website for you could have a grapgics chip fault. One way to test is to plug a VGA monitor into the VGA outlet port on the upper left side of you laptop and start it up. If you get a clear display you have a screen problem - next step remove the external monitor and again boot up but in a darkened room to see if your backlight is off - if you can just see the HP logo in the back ground then your backlight has failed or more rightly - the backlight micro switch under your R/H hinge has failed. A cheap fix. If there is no display external or TFT your Nvidia graphics chip has failed. m/board replacement required BUT you may qualify for free m/board replacement under Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} HP Pavilion dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 and Compaq Presario v3000/v6000 Series Notebook PCs - HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement go to this site below to see if you qualify

My screen went black

If your Notebook's screen went blank you can do the following:--

1) Try booting with an external monitor. Connect the external monitor to the VGA port given to the Notebook.
Result:1 --- If the external monitor is working fine, then the problem is with LCD. If your Notebook is under warranty you can get it repaired free of cost.
If your Notebook is out of warranty you can go to HP.com and purchase the LCD screen (If you are in USA please go to this link :--- http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/)

Result 2:--- After connecting the external monitor even the display is not there, then it is the problem with the motherboard. If your Notebook is under warranty then you can avail free repair.
If your Notebook is out of warranty you can go to HP.com and purchase the Motherboard (If you are in USA please go to this link :--- http://h20141.www2.hp.com/hpparts/)

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

hi,
i m in Hong Kong. The stupid HP repair center charged US 90 just for inspection!!!!! They they said the whole motherboard had to be replaced, thts additional US 630 dollars, the thing is just 1.5 yr old. They also said i don get to keep the broken mother board after replacement. This is simply irresponsible, unethical, sleazy and UNJUST!!

Thanks. right now the computer is fixed for US70. when i hv time, i'll open it up and see if i can figure it out how it was fixed. The shop suggested tht the computer wont last too long. This is such bad quality for HP... Sorry, i hv to do the following for other victims to find this easily:
