Sometimes when we go to start the car it won't turn over at all, nothing happens. The lights/radio etc come on, but there is nothing else happening. We thought there might be something to do with a kill switch or something, but it's happened twice now in the past 2 days and about 6 times overall the last 3 weeks. we just purchased 3 weeks ago 2nd hand.

Possible causes, flat battery, faulty alternator, coil or starter motor, though sounds more like power problem, do you have power to lights, radio etc when key is turned on even though nothing happens.
if starter is not engaging or clicks then have battery load tested. if battery checks good then test the voltage draw on the starter, may be dragging when it gets hot.
Make sure all the ends on your battery cables are clean and tight. I got a tow in because my car would not try to start even tried boosting to no avail. All my lights and radio was working but they said the cable was corroded and would not let the full power work. We replaced the battery cables and worked like new now.
