it sounds like you got a dead short under the glass top , it could be a wire that shorted or some type of bug that got into the elements , I would even open the top with out pulling the plug out of the wall ,if it is 10 years old mite not be worth fixing but it should be looked at before you decide Frank
GLASS MAINTOP ASSY Part Number PS253905
price around $812.92
Replaced main glass cooking surface on cooktop
First, shut of the breaker to the cooktop.
Then removed two screws to release brackets holding cooktop down. Then lifted the cooktop out of the recess in the counter top and removed the screws around the outside of the glass top. Removed the old, cracked top, by unplugging from the motherboard.
Turned the new cooktop upside down on table and placed weather stripping around the entire underside outside edge (to keep spills from going under the cooktop and cushion the cooktop from the counter top.
Then plugged the new cooktop into the motherboard, replaced screws around outside edge, lowered the cooktop into the recess in the counter, and reinserted the two screws into the hold-down brackets.
Turned the breaker back on.
Note: Just need Screw drivers and 40 minutes of your time.
A small crack, turns into a big crack, Short of ordering a new piece of glass, there is no "fix" sorry. YOu can continue to use it, but eventually it will run across the cook top, and then shatter the glass... Better be safe than sorry.

We purchased a 36" elite model on ebay for our house we are building. I finally installed a year later only to have error codes 39 & 40. I completely dissasembled it and put it back together. No luck. However after much searching I found the service manual for the 36" Icon by Electrolux (same manufacturer as the Elite). The guts look mostly the same. Manual states your codes 10 16 12 are for defective key sensors. I found out that on my cooktop if I held a key for maybe 20 sec or more it would beep once - indicating the key was not defective.
We have a new product that is odor less and non-toxic. $8.95 a bottle + shipping. Our web site will be up shortly: debrucepolish.com I'm Bruce, can be reached at 612-220-2236
If the knobs will not push down and turn, this indicates the gas valve stem has become contaminated with cooking debris. The only solution to this, would be to replace the gas valves. With the cooktop more than 10ys old, parts may be difficult to find. If you can find parts, they will probably be prohibitively expensive.
The cooktop box has a metal flange. Make sure the cooktop when dropped into the countertop is resting on ther metal flange and not the glass edge by itself. If it rests on the glass alone the weight will cause the glass to crack at some point in time.
