Memory card problems

The problem is that everytime I try to upload photos onto a computer, or even look at them for that matter, the only option in the card's folder is dcim.exe, and flashy.exe. Why are my only options execution files, and why is my computer (or any computer) not recognizing the photo and video files that are definately on it?
any help would be appreciated.

nope, sorry, It is not. I am actually in kuala lumpur, using internet shop computers, could this possibly have something to do with it. They are completely updated and good quality though. But there is no samsung software on it.

    any other thoughts?

  • joyride43 Jan 15, 2008

    hahaha,

They have absolutly no idea, and she spoke malay, along with maybe 15 words of english.

But, okay, i took some pictures using the camera's internal memory, no problem. They showed up. I also tried using a friends cardreader, and it was the same deal as having the card in the camera, no good.

I tried locking, and unlocking the card, restarting the comp, and using programs online (like facebook) to veiw the photo's, all to no avail.

I know the card is okay because i can veiw the pics on the camera, the problem is still that all computers veiw the information on the card in exe file format only, when they should be folders.

Thanks for trying, do you have anything other ideas?

ran antivirus, deleted files as they are not cleanable. You are right, it does not delete the pictures. However, this computer does not seem to have the "display hidden files and folders" option, which is strange because using windows help, and searching hidden files, it tells me the same thing as you have told me.

I will try again on another computer within a few days, and play around with some of the folder options that I do have.

i got it in thailand, good call!

What i did :
Tools>Folder Options...>View
i checked all options with title "display this and that kind of folders and files" and unchecked all "hide file" titles , and my real dcim folder appeared as transparent folder icon 100% usable.
if you already erased dcim.exe, try it anyway your folder should be there.

After copying your files from it format your memory card.

I assdume that you have the Samsung software installed.
If this is so remove it [start/contro; panel/add remove software]
Restart the computer.
Then Windows will find the camera with its own camera/scanner Wizard

Come back with the results

Check with the Shop it is likely therefore the operating system is restricted in some way for Internet use not general applications.
I will be interested to know if this is the case

  • Anonymous Jan 15, 2008

Well now this is interesting. Then camera should store the files as JPEG. but I read you as saying the show in the camera as .exe and will not come up in a computer.
This does suggest perhaps that the camera is failing in some way.
Is this a new problem - has the camera worked correctly previously
May be a Camera shop will have an idea or the Samsung Tech support.

Hi There,
This is a virus, just google for DCIM.EXE and you'll find what I mean. I have the same. What the virus does is is HIDES the original folder where the photos are in (they are NOT deleted), and then renames itself to the original folder name - hiding the .exe extension. Just run AVG Free Antivirus. Now it looks like everything is gone, but it isn't. The folder with the photos is simply hidden. To see this folder again goto My Computer, Extra, Folder options, Display, display hidden files and folders, Ok. And there they are again!

Good luck....
Ps: found the virus in Nepal, Thailand and India. Asian Infection???

I can't figure out how to upload my pitures and videos.

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS TO COMPUTER
If your photos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

Every time I try and upload pictures onto my computer using my Nikon s4000, the pictures are extremely distorted, but look completely fine on the camera itself. I use the chord that came with the camera to...

this is a very odd problem, I have the same camera and it works fine, your best bet is to buy a usb SD memory card dongle. they are about 14 dollars, this will solve your problem with the photos, but I don't know why your camera won't work properly with the cable., have you tried it with the cable on your friends computer?

Why can't I upload my photos from my finepix s1500 onto my mac? It opened the files in my iphoto but they showed up as blank boxes and "Error downloading images - iPhoto cannot import your photos...

Is this a new problem - that is, did it work in the past? Are you trying to import jpeg or raw?

First thing is to see if it is iphoto or the camera that has a problem.

Try uploading the images to another computer (try a PC - not that it is better, but PC is different). If the images can be seen & read there, the images are likely fine and iphoto may need an upgrade to read the format from the finepix s1500. Alternately, try copying the photos from your memory card (use a memory card reader) to your hard disk. See if another application can see the images (even use a word processor to import image), or e-mail the image to yourself and then use your web-browser to see the image.

If the camera images can't be read by multiple computers/multiple readers, then it may be that your memory card is corrupted.

My camera says the pictures upload onto my computer but then nothing happens after that....the pictures dont upload what is the problem?

Internal Memory: 32MB
SD Card / SDHC Card (Up to 4GB support)

Possible that internal memory is empty and your are transfered zero file. Switch to external SD memory in your camera menu should take care of the problem. Get the SD card reader is your easiest option. just copy and paste the photos to my picture in your computer.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FS5 cant upload photos!!

Did your friend use the "safely remove hardware" function when removing your card from her computer? That could corrupt your card if she didn't. Try this...take your card to a store like Walmart that has a Kodak picture kiosk. They can usually read everything on a card. There, you can print the pics or even make a cd of them. Afterwards, format your card in your camera.

Problem Uploading pictures

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.
