Isolate the integer part (to the left of the decimal point)
Convert the non integer part (decimal part) into a fraction.
Write the result as (integer part) (fraction part)
3/2=1.5
Integer part is 1, decimal part is 0.5
0.5 as a fraction is 1/2
3/2= 1 1/2
Use the +<>- key, located just to the right of the decimal point key, to change the sign of the number just entered. For example, to enter -2/3, press 2 +<>- ab/c 3
2.4507E-4 is scientific notation for 2.4507 times ten to the minus 4, or .00024507.
Take the 2.4507 and move the decimal point, to the left if the exponent is negative, to the right if it is positive, the specified number of positions.
If the magnitude of the result is too small or too large, the calculator will automatically switch to scientific notation. Imagine a number that has more than 12 digits to the left of the decimal point. How is that going to fit onto the display? Or a number that is 0 followed by the decimal point followed by 12 0s and then some significant digits?
Just divide 23 by 76. You will get an answer in decimal point which is 0.0326. Move the point (.) 2 places to the right and you will get the answer in percentage.
Sorry, but you cannot calculate percentages at the pressing of a key. The calculator does not have a key for that. You will have to do it yourself. To convert a decimal result to a percentage, multiply it by 100: MOVE the decimal mark two places to the right. To convert a percentage into a decimal number, divide the number by 100: MOVE the decimal mark two places to the left.
You MUST put parenthesis around fractions in a TI-83. If you have a fraction with multiple parts in the numerator or denominator, you MUST put parenthesis around either the numerator or denominator (depending on which one has multiple parts).
