"RAM Cleared"? When I turn my TI-84 (Silver Edition) on the screen reads "RAM Cleared". What does this mean and how can I fix it? Or is it even possible to so do?

I found ants on my calculator plus my batteries were dying. I removed the batteries and replaced them and when I turned on my calculator, the screen read RAM cleared and froze. No buttons were working and the only way I could turn my calculator off was by taking out the batteries. I tried to even take out the back up battery and nothing is working

I had the same issue with my ti-83+, I opened it up and realise there was some corrosion on the circuit board.. probably from beer leaks hmm I mean battery leaks.. well I took a clean tooth brush and gently removed the corrosion from the circuit board and put back the screws together and now it works like a new one !!! watch out when you open it, once you remove the circuit board from the casing nothing hold the buttons and they flew into the air when I opened it... took me more time actualy to put them back at the proper place than fixing the calculator!

Ok I had this problem all of a sudden and I kinda flipped out, but...I DID FIND A WAY TO FIX IT, all i was hit it against my pillow and bed for like 5 secs and it suddenly worked again. lol its a miracle! But try it and u never know..it worked for me.

( O yea, make sure its on the "Ram Cleared" screen, then beat it against your bed or something soft)

Although at first glance, I can't believe this strategy will work. But after I tried everything from removing battery and press "clear" ...etc. THIS ACTUALLY WORKS FOR ME!!!!!!!!! Thank God! and can't help thinking the old "turn it off-turn it back on" and "beat it" ways of fixing electronics works!!!

I had the same problem. I went to TI's website and snooped around for about a half an hour and then found this tip: Press and hold the "clear" button. Remove one of the AAA batteries and then re-install. Release the "clear" button and turn on the calculator. TA-DA!!! This worked for me. My calculator is back in action.

I was getting the same REM CLEARED code, but it did work if I pushed the button long enough. I tried the whole "hit it against something soft" solution, and it worked. After I slammed it on my couch it said "Done" and it was back to normal! HA HA....
Thanks xfirex1068

My Ti84 has the same problem. it locked me out.i tried to group several prgms but it froze up.
I think its because one or two or alot of the memory kernels got "hit" to many times so it cant be used to store data or return info...

it happened to me, too. turns out that when batteries fall out, temperature changes, etc. the RAM (random-access memory) clears. if you have any saved programs, you can archive them by pressing [2nd] + 2 7 . Press [ENTER] next to every program you want to archive (a little star will appear)and you won't lose it next time. you can't use archived programs; they're just saved so that when RAm clears you won't lose any archived info. you can actually archive lots of suff.
to use your program, follow the same key sequence, the star will disappear, and you can use it again.
if you don't have any programs that you want to keep, well i just wasted my time. :)

The best way is to call TI tech support.

Just wait. my ti84 froze for about 20 hours. then we tried the method suggested by the instruction booklet, the one where you take out all the batteries and hold the 'on' button for 10 seconds+ and then reinstall the batteries. we did this repeatedly and when it didn't work, we went and got new batteries but when we came back it just started working again.

My TI-84 reads RAM cleared how can i fix this?

Hello.

Means the memory is full and your TI needs to be reset:

There should be a Reset button (press) or a pinhole (push an opened paperclip in the hole and release).

Hope this helps.

I have a TI 84 plus silver edition. Won't turn

The problem may be due a screen that is too light to see anything on it. Adjust the screen darkness.
  1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press and HOLD the [UpArrow] to draken screen.
  3. Release the [UpArrow] when screen is dark enough.
You can also connect it to the computer to see if TI Connect finds it. If it does, update the OS to version 2.53MP.

You change the backup battery if the calculator tells you RAM CLEARED each time you turn it ON.

RAM CLEARED?

Hello,
The most likely reason is that the backup battery is drained. Change the backup battery. When you get the Ram Cleared message, just press [CLEAR] to erase the message and start using the calculator.
Hope it helps.
