My TI 84 plus calculator refuses to graph more than one equation at a time in the window I have tried everything I know of to fix, it seems to be a common problem.

Hello,
Please, read the following, even if you already know some of its contents.

  1. Once you enter an equation, the corresponding equal sign is highlighted by default.
  2. Before you draw the 2 graphs, move the cursor to Y3 or Y4 and verify that the = signs for Y1 and Y2 remain highlighted.
  3. If one is not highlighted, move the cursor on it and press ENTER.
  4. If you still have problem, press [2nd][STATPLOTS][4: PlotsOff] [ENTER].
  5. Command PlotsOff echoes on main screen.
  6. Press [ENTER], screen displays Done.
  7. Restart the graphing procedure.
  8. If all else fails, just reset the RAM by pressing [2nd][MEM][7:Reset][1:All RAM][2:Reset], press [CLEAR] to clear the message.
You should make it a habit to clear the RAM every time you start a new type of problem.

Hope it helps.

I want to know how to graph equations on the TI-84 calculator

You must cast the functions in the so-called functional form y=ax+b. Isolate y for both functions, then open the Y= function editor and type in the second member (right member) of y=ax+b.
You can enter both functions and have them graphed on the same screen. In that case one will be on the Y1= line, the other on the second line.
Make sure that both = signs in the Y= editor are highlighted if you want both functions on the same graph.

TI-84: trying to graph an equation and ERR: INVALID DIM shows up only PLOT 1 is highlighted Window XMax XMin Ymax and Ymin are correct Any ideas? Test tomorrow

You're probably trying to graph a function that does not involve stat plot features. You can correct this by turning off the stat plot features. Press "2ND" "STAT PLOT" and then select 4:PlotsOff.

We are trying to graph a system of 2 equations on a TI-84 Plus but the calculator will allow only 1 of the equations to be graphed at a time i.e. only 1 of the = on the Y= screen can be highlighted at a...

Hello,
Let us use the correct the terminology: You want to draw the graphics of two unrelated FUNCTIONS on the same calculator screen. That can be done but that does not make them a system of two equations.
Since it pains you to have to reset the calculator, I will try some solutions that may work within your constraints.

Turn STATSPLOTs OFF
[2nd][STATPLOTS][4:PlotsOff] [ENTER]

Clear all lists: Will erase contents of lists.
[2nd][MEM][4:ClrAllLists][ENTER]

Draw your graphs. If the ranges of the two functions do not overlapp they may not show on the screen with the SAME window dimensions.

If it works, fine. If it does not you will have to clear the RAM.
