This happens as the ink needs some time to saturate the system. Usually one needs to print quite a few pages for the ink to flow through and get to the ink head. A better quicker way is to clean the ink heads with the aid of the software that came with your printer.
Navigate to your windows control panel and double click printers and faxes. Then right click on your HP Officejet 6500 printer and select properties. Then click the Print test page button. Check the manual for cleaning the ink head.
You can click on the link below to see step by step instruction to resolve the Ink system faliure error. These messages comes due to cartridge or print head issues.
FYI,
you cannot reset the ink it self.
If your using an HP refilled ink cartridge the warranty of your printer will be void.
you need to contact HP right away to purchase new ink cartridges.
If the cartridge has been refilled or remanufactured, 'Low on Ink' or 'Ink Alert' messages may be inaccurate or display incorrectly.
Lift the top of the printer as if you are going to replace cartridges. When the print head comes into view you should see a grey lever on the right hand side. Lift it and reseat it. That worked for me!
My printer did that a few months ago. I tried everything to get it printing black but in the end I had to take the ink cartridge back and return a new one. Some ink cartridges dry out when they are being shipped if not stored in proper conditions.
Hi,
When using refilled
print cartridges, the Estimated Ink level and the Printer Status Window
may indicate that the print cartridge is out of ink. Either continue to
use the print cartridge until print quality degrades, or replace the
print cartridge with a new HP print cartridge.
The methods of replacing the ink cartridge of the printer follows here:
Open the printer cover
The printer ink carriage will automatically goes to center
Once the carriage is in the center, the printer was ready to replace the ink.
Pull the down slowly the ink tank off the carriage..
Remember the place where the color/black position. Remove each tank one at a time, and replace the ink with a new one.
Close the printer cover and it now ready to printer.
