    I've got the same problem

  • Anonymous Mar 02, 2008

There was a loud pop and then the colors were almost gone, the imagen is bad and I don't know how to discribe it but it looks like black sand on the screen that changes in intensity as the imagen changes. I tried adjusting the picture and tried viewing other sources like the DVD and I still got the same results. Any sugestion and how much should I expect to pay for repairs. By the way, seems to be ok.

    Thanks

    Hi,

There was a lowd pop in my LG 50PX1D-UC then the colors where almost gone and I don't know how to describe it but on the screen I get what looks like black sand that goes from heavy, where there is almost no image, to thin allowing a bad image to be seen. The audio seems to be ok. Do you have any sugestion and how much should I expect to pay for repair.

    Thanks

same problem just happened to me. obviously with the money i have spent on this tv i am not a happy camper. i will be calling come monday.

Bought my LG 50 in. plasma at Circuit City on 1-9-06 with an extended warranty until 1-9-09. Loved it until 3-24-08, a loud POP and then no picture, only sound. It is still in the shop - have replaced 4 boards and still not working so have ordered two more boards. Just hoping it will eventually work and last a little longer than it has so far. Not happy at all with LG at this time. Will not buy any more LG products.

i'm so disappointed for all of us to share this common thread. i feel snookered to sit here and spell out the same details the thirty plus statements before me described. Shame on you LG if you don't take care of your customers.

12/04/05 my wife and i left circuit city with the LG plasma tv model 50PX1D, w/o ext. warr. wow ! what a nice unit. proud to have done my homework and made a good choice. 5/20/08 , SNAP. what the ?!! my picture has been described well already, as dark and grainy at best, no color at all. sound is unchanged. there should be some kind of standard here. if LG will step up here and take care of these faulty parts and labor, i will be impressed enough to continue trying different LG products . Best of Luck !

I am sorry to say I have the same problem. Watching TV and pop went the picture. You can still see a black faint picture, but what a disappointment.

  • Anonymous Jun 18, 2008

Had same problem. Bought TV 11/2005. On 10/2006 turned TV on and "POP". No picture (black screen) on sound. Called LG. Provided information and told to expect an authorized repair person in about a week and a half (they gave me an exact date). I asked for the contact info of the authorized repair shop. Planned to call them to confirm but never did. I hated to wait but had no choice. The day came and I took the day off from work and waited. Around 2pm they had not showed up so I called the repair shop and was told that LG never scheduled a date for me. They had no ide who I was. I called LG and was told that I had never called to request warranty repair. But, somehow they already had all my information. This in spite of my not ever registering the TV. I scheduled a new visit 1 - 2 weeks away. Called the shop a few days to confirm. Took another day off from work. They came replaced a giant circuit board and left. All this in under 15 minutes. Apparently they knew what the problem was.

Fast Forward 8 months (6/08), turned TV on, "POP"! no video no sound. Called LG, Told I'm out of luck. The warranty period is over. I asked if the warranty could be extended since they repaired this unit 8 month ago and they had to be aware that there was a seious issue with these models. The response was that he knew there was an issue but did not know what LG was doing about this problem and that he did not know who would.know. Told to exercise the extended warranty.

On top of all this a few months into owning the TV, there were bars burnt into the sides.

This is the last LG anything I spend my money on. I did not mind that it broke the first time as things happen and they honored the warranty. I can live ignore the lying agent that told me that I never called and/or the incompetent agent that either did not enter or process the request properly. But to be aware of a serious issue and not make good on it is just plain bad business.

    LG = Lousy Garbage

    Hello,

I have the same problem. Bought it in 2006 and then the explosion sounds of light bulbs blowing up. Then no picture and sound. This was just 7-2-08. Called LG and they told me to contact someone that repairs LG Plasma TV's. Now that I am reading about everyone else with the same problem, I am a mad. (I have other words, but i can not say them). This sounds like it keeps happening? What can we do to keep this from happening in the future?

  • ctm95 Jul 07, 2008

I had the same problem also. Bought the tv 2/06. Then on 7/2/08 "POP". Picture is black with only a very few dark pixels working. No sound. Out of warranty. I don't know how to fix it, the cost, or if it is worth it.

Hi my name is maggy and I"ve had my LG plasma for 2 years now. A few days ago I heard a loud pop coming from the TV and all of the sudden the screen became dark and hazy. I Immediately contacted LG to see what type of resolution could be reached since I'm OUT of WARRANTY.. They went ahead and extended my WARRANTY and they will have a tecnician at my home on tuesday September 9 to fix the TV at no cost. You need to call 1877-543-8325. This number will connect you directly with an LG representative. Call them!!

  • sangk86 Sep 08, 2008

Our model lasted about 3 years and last week the infamous loud POP noise blew out the picture. Sound is fine though. I called LG and they had my call a local TV repair service. They came today and is charging me $450 (not including labor fee) to fix the issue. I was wondering if the price was right for the parts. The parts being replaced are the two vertical boards at the left and right side of the tv.

  • Anonymous Dec 12, 2008

Call, 877-543-8325, I am 1+ yrs out of warranty and they are giving me parts for free. I pay labor.

  • Anonymous Jan 16, 2009

Same problem as many others.  Loud POP and screen goes dark.  LG says too bad, they don't recognize it as a design or manufacturing defect.  $3500 TV purchased 36 months ago is going out as trash since costs so much to fix relative to purchase another (non-LG) TV.

loud POP screen is dark just in time for supper bowl Great!

  • Anonymous Feb 19, 2009

Same problem with Pop--no picture, but good sound. Everyone that has this complaint needs to contact BBB or comsumer center to let LG know they are going to have to step up to this problem. Evidently is manufacture error or everyone wouldn't be having the same problem. Called repairman. coming tomorrow. Hope not to costly.

  • racnforfun2 Feb 19, 2009

i called lg today with same problem and was very nice and they are paying for parts but not labor 1-877-543-8325. tv was out of warranty. talked to a female by the name of Troy Lynn. Hope this helps.

My tb popped and went black with wide red verticle lines going across. I have sound but no picture.

  • cgholcomb Mar 26, 2009

have the same problem, just talked to Troy Lynn at LG (877-543-8325), LG will be paying for the replacement part, and I will pay for the labor since it's three years old and the warranty is for two years.

  • Ricks Answer Mar 30, 2009

My 50" LG made a loud pop and no picture. Found this website and made some calls. The TV was out of warranty for 2 years but they extended it and payed parts no labor. I payed out of pocket $250 labor $80 for pickup and drop off. The person i talked to on the phone was very nice and polite....After I told them about this site...lol. I would like to say, Thank you for this site...it's a awesome idea to have such a site like this.
    R.S

  • hmgken Apr 20, 2009

I called LG asking for Troylynn (sp?), but spoke to a guy named Ronnie. He said LG released a service bulletin about this (not sure if its specific to the 50PX1D), but if I fax my receipt and S/N he would take care of this - meaning get it fixed at a local LG authorized service provider free of charge.

  • Anonymous Apr 20, 2009

I purchased my LG50PX1D at Circuit City on 12/10/2005, and on January 14, 2006 we heard a loud pop and no picture (we had sound and yes, this was just past the 30 day return window at Circuit City). LG was not very responsive then and it took me 2 months of battling with them to get them to issue an order to Circuit City to give me a new television. I went ahead and spent $600 on a three year extended warranty! (so stupid) Here I am, 20 days past the end of my extended warranty and POP!! No picture, no sound. I will try the 877 number several posts have recommended and hope for the best and will post my results. I will also file a complaint with the BBB as I had to in 2006 in order to get results. Good luck to you others!

  • Anonymous Apr 21, 2009

Okay, I called the number several of the users on this site referred to and I was unable to get any help at all. They told me it was too far out of warranty (though I noticed it was no further out than some of the posted items here). So LG has not improved their customer service any over the past 3 years. A shame to have a $3000 television go bad in so short a time. Really unfortunate is I just purchased another 32" LG for my bedroom. Now I wish I had not. I'm sure there will be problems with this one at some point that LG will not address. I did post a complaint with the BBB, so we shall see if that produces any results.

  • Anonymous Apr 27, 2009

Hi, same problem as others. Heard a pop and now no picture. I called LG this morning and no help. Not happy. The plasma is 3 years old. They guy told me this was not a known problem. I will not buy a LG product again.

  • squirrely1 May 05, 2009

I also heard the infamous POP and then no pict but sound. I have model 50PX1D and it is only around 3 years old. After I found all your comments here I called LG and begged for their help and told them it was a "known problem" and they at first resisted and then when I said if I didn't get their help I will have no choice but to turn my TV into a giant billboard that will sit out on my lawn with a sign attached that says: "Don't by LG products they are Junk!" they changed their tune. They are now extending the warranty 30 days and will cover the parts and labor for the repair!! YAHOOOO!! That may be the magic bullet. Just persist and let them know that you know it is a known problem. They should seriously issue a recall on these units! Good Luck and thanks for taking the time to put up your comments you just saved me a bunch of money!! :)

I just had the same problem. after talking to many tv repair people i finally got a knowledgeable person to help me. i ordered the part and fixed it myself.
it was very easy. i have an LG model# 50px1d. so if you had this problem i suggest you order the part yourself and fix it. i got an estimate for repair and it wouldv'e cost me at least $500 parts and labor. i paid $230 for the part. so you can see i saved a little more than half. the part you need is the " Z SUS " ASSEMBLY. you can order the part from LG website. the part # is 6871QZH044C.
let's just say after doing everything myself, i am watching TV right now.
by the way LG would not help me at all. spread the word that LG is not a good product.

After no results from LG, I went ahead and purchased the defective part from PartStore.com for around $200 and replaced the part myself. It was really easy (I am a 51 year old female), and I really think anyone could do it. Just be very careful when removing the old part (disconnecting all the connections can be intimidating). While I had the TV open, I went ahead and took off the cooling fans and cleaned them with compressed air, as well as the rest of the internal components. Taking the back off the TV was actually the most difficult part of the job as all the screws are very intimidating, but since the screws will only fit in the holes they belong it, it wasn't so bad.

LG has the poorest customer service I have ever seen. This is the second television that did this. I only had the first one for 33 days and they refused to replace the TV. They were eventurally forced to replace it when they were unable to find anyone trained or prepared to repair it within 100 miles of my residence. Of course, it was without a television for almost 3 months while fighting with them. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and LG's response back to the BBB was my TV was out of warranty, so they were not required to help. They didn't even address my complaint about them knowing about this issue for years (as is proven on this website).

All-in-all, I am pleased I was able to "save" my $3000 television for $200 and 30 minutes time. I would suggest anyone with this problem try this resolution. It's really easy. If I can do it, you can.

Your power board is bad so it is not giving power to light up the screen.

TV LG Model 50PX1D-UC Flat Panel Television Loud Popping Noise. TV goes out. I turned on my tv the other morning and it let out a loud popping noise and the picture went out. Any suggestions...

Hello,

The problem is that there is a bad capacitor inside the unit, it is either on the main panel or the power panel. The popping sound you got was due to the fact that the lead on the capacitor was bridging, therefore causing some electrical popping sound.

Run a check on the main panel and the power panel for any bad capacitor and replace it with a new one. That way, your television will be in good condition once again.

Take care and good luck

Model LG50PX1D Loud pops, screen is red, picture hard to make out

One of the boards went bad. The sound you heard is either of a capacitor or an IC. It might be a bad Sustain board. Look at the boards you may find a bad chip with a hole in the middle or a capacitor with blister on the top.

Good luck

42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Hi , I recently had the same problem which I was determined to fix . So I did a few weeks of research to find that it was the Y SUS board which burns out. I'm sure you realized that the TV gets hot. Personally I think this is why. circuit boards don't like heat and I've learned that the cooling fans are a joke. I replaced the board and got my picture back. I proved the fan theory because after the screen started to act up. I placed a cooling fan near the vent holes on top and the problem cleared right up,It also helps if you lower the brightness which helps out on the heat situation.I will soon be adding a fan with a temp. sensor. This shoud help if your screen has lines when you initially turn the cool TV on.then I have Some other costless solutions. Hope this helped these are great TV's and like our cars we maintain them not throw them away..................................Mr Wiseman

Picture went dark

This problem can be a bad YSUS or bad ZSUS and I recommend replacing both. The part #s are 6871QYH039B and 6871QZH044C. These parts can be found at Andrews or Vance Baldwin.

50"lg plasma tv

The popping noise you heard it's probably a capacitor blowing up in the power supply circuitry. If the TV is less than one year old, still covered under manufacturers warranty.
