Hello,
The most likely reason is that the backup battery is drained. Change the backup battery. When you get the Ram Cleared message, just press [CLEAR] to erase the message and start using the calculator.
Hope it helps.

Here is additional information from the TI Knowledge Base.

What troubleshooting steps can I try if my TI-83 Plus family or TI-84 Plus family graphing calculator displays RAM cleared?

If a TI-83 Plus family or TI-84 Plus family calculator consistently displays the RAM cleared message, the following steps will help in troubleshooting the problem:
    • Try a new set of batteries (including the backup battery).
    After
replacing batteries, adjust the contrast by pressing and releasing the
[2nd] key followed by pressing and releasing the up arrow; repeat as
necessary. To adjust or lighten the display, use the down arrow.
    •
Remove one of the AAA batteries. With one of the batteries removed,
press and hold the CLEAR key. While holding CLEAR, reinsert the AAA
battery and then turn the calculator on. The calculator should display
the message "RAM Cleared". Release the CLEAR key and then press it one more time to remove the message.
    •
Remove all of the batteries including the round lithium battery for 5
minutes. After the 5 minute period, reinsert all of the batteries and
turn the calculator on. Adjust the contrast if necessary.
    •
Remove one of the AAA batteries. Press and hold the DEL key. While
holding DEL, reinsert the AAA battery and then turn the calculator on.
The calculator should display "Waiting...Please install calculator software now". From here, follow the instructions listed for Correcting
the Error Message Waiting...Please Install Calculator Software Now on
the TI-83 Plus Family or TI-84 Plus Family Calculator
    case.

Ram cleared, how to reset ram memory

If the calculator says RAM Cleared, then the RAM is cleared and there is no need for you to reset it. again.
If the calcularor says RAM Cleared everytime you turn calculator on, it may be due to a depleted backup battery.

I have a TI-84 plus silver edition. there was a notice on my screen saying that batteries were low. I replaced them, and when I turned it back on, the RAM was cleared, but the screen acted like it was...

TI calculators have an annoying habit of dimming the screen when the batteries are changed so that it appears as if the calculator isn't turning on. Turn the calculator on (or at least press the ON key). Press and release the 2ND key. Press and hold the Up-arrow key for a few seconds and see whether the screen becomes legible.

If that isn't it, then remove all four AAA batteries. Press and hold the ON key for ten seconds. Replace the batteries and turn the calculator on. (You may have to adjust the contrast as described above.)

I would suggest putting it in some dry rice. That will soak up all the moisture. You might also try drying it with a hair dryer.

The screen on my TI-83 Plus says, "RAM cleared" and won't do anything. It has the curser after I press "ON", but won't do anything else. I tried holding clear, holding ON, hitting it, etc. Can anyone...

When the calculator is turned ON, power to refresh the RAM is supplied by the main batteries. However, when it is OFF, the RAM relies on the backup battery to keep itself refreshed.
If you get the RAM CLEARED message whenever you turn calculator ON, it most certainly is due to a depleted backup battery. You will have to replace the backup battery.

To avoid losing anything important from RAM (what do I say, you are already losing the contents of the RAM), make sure that main batteries are still good, then replace the backup battery.

You can verify the state of the main batteries in a battery tester or by connecting the calculator to the computer with TI USB Silver cable and TI Connect software. If you run into problem such as calculator not recognized it is most probably due to weak batteries.

When you connect it to computer try updating the OS if OS version is not 1.19.

I have a TI 84 plus silver edition. Won't turn

The problem may be due a screen that is too light to see anything on it. Adjust the screen darkness.
  1. Press [2nd] key and release it.
  2. Press and HOLD the [UpArrow] to draken screen.
  3. Release the [UpArrow] when screen is dark enough.
You can also connect it to the computer to see if TI Connect finds it. If it does, update the OS to version 2.53MP.

You change the backup battery if the calculator tells you RAM CLEARED each time you turn it ON.

TI-84 Calc is FROZEN

I'd try hooking it to the computer using ti connect explorer and see if deleting the programs there would help. I had a calculator that did the same thing and never did fix it. But if your memory can be delete and reinstalled it might work.
