Talk about needing a gorilla's strength!! I finally figured it out. Tools needed wide jaw pliers, top off a medicine bottle and a wooden handle spoon. Place the cap over the crystal to protect it and let the sides set on the bezel, next place the wooden spoon handle across the back, this keeps the back level across. now take the pliers and grip the bottle cap on one side and the spoon on the other and squeeze gently it should pop into place. If it worked please make a donation to the ASPCA. Thanks
You probably need to go to a watch repair professional. Any business that replaces watch batteries should be able to help you. They have a special press designed to support the watch safely while they snap the back onto the case. This sometimes takes quie a bit of force and rqeuires that the watch case and back plate be perfectly aligned.
