My u-line 75rfb-00 refrigerator wont get cold the light comes on the motor sounds as if its working but it only gets cool not cold ?

IT is three buttons not two. Cooling Off mode (also called Shop mode), is designed for use by retailers when they display refrigerators on the shop floor. In Cooling Off mode, the refrigerator's fan motor and lights work normally, but the compressors do not run, and the refrigerator and freezer do not get cold. To start Cooling Off mode, press and hold the Energy Saver button, the Freezer button and the Lighting button for 5 seconds during normal operation. The refrigerator chime sounds and O-FF appears on the display. To cancel Cooling Off mode, press and hold the Energy Saver button, the Freezer button and the Lighting button again for 5 seconds, until the chime sounds. If the refrigeration motor is running and it is not getting cold then it probably is low on freon the gas that is used for refrigeration. Also if the motor only runs for a few minutes then stops it is possible that the cold control is bad, This is a common problem in refrigerators and can be fixed by replacing the control. First you must determine that the motor is in fact running. If the motor is running the motor should feel warm to the touch after 10 to 20 minutes of operation, and you should feel some cooling in the refrigerator on the cooling or evaporator coil. If the motor is running and getting warm or hot and you feel no or very little cooling then it is in fact ether low on freon or a component in the refrigeration system is malfunctioning. Freon can only be replaced by a certified technician.

If your motor and compressor isnt running then replace the control. If the compressor tries to run but kicks out then you need to replace the fan. You can always bypass the thermostat to check everything before you guess at it.

sounds like you have a restriction in your metering device, if it is a TXV it has a small screen in it that will capture debris in the system. This is a selaed system problem and unless you have proper tools will require a technician. (probably not what you wanted to heare..sorry)

I just had a similar problem, and the bottoms of both sides were cold but the top shelves were warm. I found that the condenser fan, the fan right above the cooling coils was not working. This fan circulates the cold air and if it's not working it can't move the cold air to the top or over to the refrigerator side. Open the freezer door and press the switch that tells the computer the door is closed (so the light goes out), if the fan doesn't come on shortly, or only sputters that could be the problem. You will need to take out the back cover over the coils, the ice maker tray and auger motor if you have one and some other parts. Play around with the plug where it goes into the side wall, if you can get the fan to come on and off, it's most likely a bad fan motor....about $55 to replace. As you take it apart, be sure to take some digital pics of the process so you can remember how it goes back together!

This is a Sub Zero and many technicians do not realize that these units most all run on 2 separate systems. 2 cold controls 2 compressors 2 evaporators. They share a condenser and condenser fan motor. What you are describing is most likely a bad cold control. It is pretty common for these to get some age and go bad. If you are very savvy with repairs yourself then if you access the compressor area and feel that the compressor on the right is cool and the compressor on the left is warm then you know that the ref. compressor has not been running. UNPLUG THE UNIT OR CUT THE BREAKER OFF. Remove the shelving from the fresh food section and the cover to the lights and the panel below the lights and lean the back panel forward to access the cold control. You will see 3 wires to the cold control. The green wire is the ground wire of corse. Unplug the other 2 wires remembering their location on the control unit. Take a jumper wire and jump these 2 wires. If when you power the unit up the right side compressor comes on then you know that your fresh food cold control is bad. Replace fresh food cold control.
