If you do not see a Touchpad icon in your systray(lower right), go to:

Start/Control Panel/System

On the left choose "Device Manager".

Select "Mice and other pointing devices" and highlight "Dell Touchpad"

Either right click and "Uninstall" or click the uninstall icon at the top.

Restart your machine and it will automatically update the driver from Dell which will put the Touchpad icon back in the system tray.

Click on this icon and go to "Device Select"

Check the "Disable Touchpad/Pointing stick when external USB mouse id present.

Touch pad not working on Dell Inspiron 1525

My daughter has the same laptop and I went to Dell's web site and checked on the parts to buy. The keyboard kit that came with a new touch pad would be around $119.oo. She is going to wait until next pay day. Check it out and have a friend replace it, if you do not want to.

How to clean inspiron 1525 touch pad

Hi there.
The touchpad itself is easy to clean but if the liquid has got into the left and right click keys you may have a problem, a warm soapy partially dry cloth will take the residue off the touchpad but the soda may have got to the circuit board causing it to be slow to react.
To clean the left and right keys and under the touchpad you have to take the laptop apart, remove the keyboard and the front cover and clean under that where you can get under the left/right click keys and the ribbon cable of the touchpad.
This type of job is not for the novice and i would advise having a technician do it whether it's in or out off warranty, preferably Dell themselves.
Other than that the best option would be to buy a wireless or wired mini mouse which are much easier to use than the touchpad itself.

Please post back with the results and more help if needed, good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!
