SOURCE: sudden knotting under fabric

I have an Elna 2005 machine and had a similar but opposite problem whereby the tension up top was too tight - thread wouldn't pull smoothly. I found adjusting the feed dog lever slightly helped the stitches a lot, even though the needle tension up top is no better. Hope that helps! :-s

SOURCE: bobbin tension

This is an issue of your upper thread tension, so take a look at this generic tension solution

If you are in a pickle with your bobbin case, check top tension and bobbin case are free of lint, reset the top tension to 4, and adjust the bobbin tension to suit......some more detail on how to do that, is here

SOURCE: My Bernina 930's lower tension

Hi - you might have a dirty bobbin case, or need a new one. IAfter awhile, little teeny dust bunnies can collect in your bobbin case and cause your bobbin tension to go wonky, especially if you use cotton thread. If you happen to have an extra bobbin case, try using the new bobbin case to see if that solves the problem. Otherwise.....

  • Remove your bobbin case and take out the bobbin. Find a small, stiff brush like the one that came with your machine and stand in very good light. Brush out the inside of your bobbin case, and push one or two bristles of your brush into any opening you can see. If you see any trace of dust but you can't get it out, use tweezers to gently pull the dust out. Now look at the outside of your bobbin case. In the small opening where you insert your bobbin thread into the bobbin case, there is a small piece of metal with screws in it the lays over the bobbin case. Brush that area carefully, and again, insert one or two bristles under than piece of metal and into any other small opening where the bristles will fit. Try sewing again. If you are still getting loops, take out your bobbin case with the bobbin thread still inserted and grab the bobbin thread with two fingers. Let go of the bobbin case - sort of like you are holding a yo-yo. If the bobbin case starts to drop as soon as you let go, your bobbin tension is loose. If the the case doesn't move, gently snap the bobbin thread you are holding and see how far the bobbin case moves down toward the floor (you might need to try this a couple of times, the bobbin has a nasty habit of flying out). When you do the snap, the bobbin case should move down about two inches and stop. If do not know how to adjust the bobbin tension, either check your manual or take the machine in for service.
  • If you haven't already, it's a good idea to remove the thread plate that sits under the needle and clean that area out with your brush. Also, get a really good flashlight and check the area where you insert your bobbin case. Gently turn your fly wheel and look inside the hook area - remove any dust or bits of thread.
In general, you should oil your machine as indicated in your manual as often as directed. You should change your needle every 10 hours of sewing - or each time you start a new project, and you should take your machine in for service every one or two years - even if you only use it once and awhile.

Hope this helps, Ginny

SOURCE: euro-pro 464xc bottom tension loose

Welcome to FixYa!

Loose bottom stitches come from the top, not the bottom. Seems weird, but that's the way sewing machines work.

The dial tension should be set at the mid range and make absolutely sure that you have the machine threaded correctly. Both things will cause a sloppy bottom stitch.

Thanks!

SOURCE: Top thread stitches correctly but bottom thread loops.

FYI---- Loops on the bottom-- problem is in the threading..
Loops on the top--- problem is with the bobbin.

How to fix the tension on the bottom part of the fabric with Jean material

With threading tension issues, first you start by checking the bobbin tension and once that is set correctly, everything is done using the top tension dial. This is explains in text article

What is Perfect Sewing Machine Tension? Perfect sewing machine tension occurs when the top and bottom threads are perfectly balanced. That means you shouldn't see any little loops on either the top or bottom of your fabric and the stitching should look even on both sides.

Bottom tension is too tight and I have tried all the tricks to fix it with no relief.

Confused. You say it's too loose and then that it's too tight. First thing to try is a brand-new sharp needle. Make sure the presser foot is LIFTED before threading the upper thread. Make sure the threading is through all the guides in the proper order. Be sure to set your upper tension to the mid-point--usually there is a mark on the dial. Then adjust the bobbin tension. Most bobbins have an adjustment screw to loosen or tighten. Righty-tighty, Lefy-loosey. Be sure the bobbin is threaded correctly in the bobbin case and the bobbin is turning in the correct direction. If there is no change, you may need a new bobbin case.

If it was serviced in 2014, it may be time to take it back for its annual.

One of the tension dials on janome 304d serger seems broken

When you say one tensioner is broke what makes you think that?
Try to pull the thread through the discs and see if turning the knob changes the tension. If it is leaving loops this may or may not be a tension problem. As a test you can pinch the thread and see if that corrects the loops with increased tension. Otherwise you need a service tech.

Troubleshooting Brother PE 770

Usually this is a tension problem. On mechanical machines, you'd adjust the dial, or possibly even the bobbin tension. But on a computer machine, I don't know how you set the upper tension, sorry to say.

Sometimes it can help to unthread and rethread a machine, and I don't know why it sometimes works, but it's a simple thing to try.

But if the upper tension isn't set correctly for the work being done or if the tension mechanism, however that's handled on a computer machine, isn't working correctly, this is what happens. Bird's nest is a good way to describe it.

Sometimes lint built up in the bobbin case can cause this symptom too, but I'd assume you keep this area clean. One reason I haven't yet invested in a computer machine is because problems like this often don't have such simple solutions as on the mechanical machines.

Where can I get a repair/service manual for a Husqvarna Viking Platinum 770 Sewing Machine? How about a Janome 634D 2/3/4 thread serger?

I can get you the service manual for your 770, but you are going to need some fairly specialized tools, meters and gauges to do any repairs.

In 37 years of servicing sewing machines, I've seen lots of machines worked on by backyard mechanics; some are ruined, some are repairable, ALL cost much more to repair after you tinker with them.

When i use sewing cloth in backside the thread will too loose then i use tension tight it correct in 8 number but manual book says 4 or 5 is correct wat can i do help me

Unthread your machine and set the tension to 4.5. rethread your machine up to the needle and then put the presser foot down. If the thread pulls hard, your machine is threaded right if it pulls easily, the thread is not thru the tension wheel correctly.

Rule of thumb:: loops on the top, problem on the bottom.
loops on the bottom, problem on the top.
