My sewage ejector failed and partially flooded my basement; that cleanup is going fine. However, I ran a load of laundry last night and noticed a slight smell - when I checked the drain pump filter the water that came out was clear-ish but had a strong sewage smell (and the filter was covered in black goo). The drain hose was apparently shoved down into the standpipe too deeply; around 30" of it were down there, so the hose went all the way down the standpipe and up the p trap, so when the sewage ejector failed the sewage backed up into the washer via the drain hose. I poured bleach water down the drain hose and let it sit for an hour, then ran an empty cycle with bleach, then ran a Pure Clean (self-sanitizing) cycle. It doesn't really smell now, but is that enough to have sanitized the internals where sewage might have been sitting?
Contact your honeowner's insurance company and see if that damage is covered. I don't think any reputable company would advise 'reclaiming' parts of a cleaning device that sat in raw sewage.
Testimonial: "It's more that the sewage backed up the drain hose into the washer; the stuff on the floor was less than an inch deep and didn't get above the washer's feet. What all procedure would be involved in cleaning the internals (and which internals) is what I need."
For the sake of others, all attempts to find expert help failed so I disassembled the washing machine and made my best guess. I removed the drain hose, drain pump, and tub to pump hose and cleaned them thoroughly, then reassembled and ran a cycle of bleach water - midway into the cycle, I paused it and let the bleach sit in the tub for about an hour.
End result: no smell, and I feel fairly confident that all sewage was removed.

SOURCE: Bad Smell
this is caused by a build up of old detergent and limescale.there are some industrial strength descalers around.wpro descaler is one.add the sachet to the drum with no wash load.pour in a kettle of hot water(not boiling)and leave for thirty minutes.then put washing machine on a 60 degree cycle and allow to run right through.you will need to repeat approximately every three months
SOURCE: Kenmore 80 Series - machine won't rinse or spin
Manually move the timer to the SPIN mode and turn it on.
If nothing happens, replace the lid switch.
With a model number I could be more specific.
SOURCE: washer empties and strong putrid/ammonia like smell
most likely you do have drainage problems where it is backing up
SOURCE: Bosch WFF1800 - not spinning
HI,
move the kicking plate on the front-bottom of the machine. You will see
o circular lid there, turn it on anti-clockvise to open. All of the
water blocked will come from there, be careful. Look carefully that
there are some objects blocking the water draining. Then turn on the
machine on draining programme, the plastic rotor should turn fastly
when the machine is on. If it is not running, change the pump motor. If
it is running, but machine is not draining again you can understand
that there is an objeck stuck on the hose between drum and pump motor.
Lay down the machine on its rear facade, you will see a large and black
hose between drum and pump motor. When you remove it, you will see that
there is something that blocks water running.
