SOURCE: onkyo ht-r500 no speakers attached goes directly

I have a HT-R520 - First thing stated in the manual is 'Do Not Apply Power to the System Until All the Speakers Are Connected to the Receiver.' This practice avoids any hot connects to the speakers. As with any high-outpiut system connecting spreaker wires to the system while in operation can spike the speakers as well as the amplifier curcuits. Hook up your speakers first and give it a try. Good Luck!

SOURCE: I have a new house that had speakers built into

you can check them with a ohm meter, hook it to the wires that you hook to the reciever and if you get a reading it is good if no reading it is bad wires

SOURCE: I have four Bose 161 speakers and an Acoutismass 5

you're going to need a ohm meter (good electrical testers have them) and make sure ohm ratings from speakers match the ratings for your receivers. Sounds like to much resistance for receiver(s)

My onkyo tx-rz810 keeps going toDet.pretction mode how do I get it out of that mode

Does the display show you are in protect mode , or is a light indicating that? The unit automatically switches to standby when the
"Hardware" - "Power Management" - "Auto Standby"
setting in the Setup menu functions are set. The protective circuit function may have been activated.
If this has occurred, "AMP Diag Mode" appears on the
display when the unit is turned on again, and the unit
enters diagnostic mode. If the results of the diagnosis is
that there is no problem, the "AMP Diag Mode" display
disappears and you can use the unit normally again. If
"CHECK SP WIRE" appears on the display, the speaker
cables may be short-circuited. Make sure bare speaker
wires are not touching each other or the back panel of
the unit, then turn the unit on again. If "NG" is displayed,
immediately unplug the power cord from the wall outlet
and contact your dealer.
• The protective circuit function may have been activated
because the temperature of the unit rose abnormally.
If this happens, then the power will continue to turn off
after you have turned the unit on again. Make sure the
unit has plenty of space for ventilation around it, wait for
the unit to cool down sufficiently, and then try turning it
on again. This is out of your users manual.

General suggestions are to remove all speakers and speaker wiring with unit off. Turn on and see if problem has stopped. If not, let unit cool down if warm and try again later. If problem is still there it needs repair shop work. I fht problem went away, shut off power and connect one speaker at a time and testing. Keep adding speakers one at a time with power off and see if a bad speaker or wire set can be located

My onkyo tx-nr 616 suddenly stop working, error pls check sp-cable, what could be the reason.

Either voice coil to the speaker is shorted, or the audio output section circuit to your receiver has shorted component/s at it. Disconnect all the speakers from the set, and check whether it shows any warning error like this. If dhows, the fault is within the receiver itself. If does not show any error message, switch off the set, and connect the speakers; one by one at a time, and try to find out which one is faulty. Be remember to switch OFF the power to the receiver, each time when one speaker box is connected. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. My onkyo receiver say protect

If protect is coming up on the display, it means the system is detecting a short somewhere on one of the speakers and so is turning the amp off to avoid damage.
Check all the connections at the back of the amp to ensure they are not shorting, and at the back of each speaker, if nothing is found there, check each wire for damage (like squashed or rodent damage).

Every time I turn on my Onkyo receiver it goes in to protect mode.

Please check your speaker cables. Make sure that all of them are seated properly, none is touching each other or to the body of receiver.

Are you using banana plugs for connecting speaker or just directly. Some times even a little tiny frayed speaker cable touching the receiver could trigger the protect mode. Be careful, since protect mode is sometimes not fast enough to activate and it could blow a few trasistors in the power output circuit.

Please take out all the speaker cables, unplug your receiver from the mains and try to restart without any cables plugged. If it powers on then you are lucky.

If not and the receiver still goes into protect mode or wont turn on then it possible that there are bad connections on the main board or have some blown transistors. How old is your system? if its still under warranty then you should contact Onkyo immidiately.

Let me know if I can be of any further help. Please do rate this solution and thanks for using FixYa!

I just hooked up my old Onkyo TX-8511 receiver to my bose speakers, which is also hooked up to a subwolfer. When I turn the volume up the system goes into protect mode. Any solutions.

Just check your speaker cabling again. Make sure that all of them are seated properly, none is touching each other or the body of receiver. Rewire if necessary..

Otherwise, do your bose speakers play out load on other systems?

Problem with onkyo tx 919 unit

Hi...
If you've had it "fixed" 3 times and the problem comes back either you have the wrong impedance (ohms) speakers connected or the power supply in the unit is the actual problem.

Happy new years,

Scott

It says protect on the front screen

An amplifier goes into protect when it detects a load with too low an impedance. If it displays protect with no speakers connected at all, the amplifier is damaged. If not, reconnect speakers one at a time (while the amp is off!) to determine the cause of the fault.

It may be as simple as a single strand of copper wire shorting between the positive and negative terminals of a connection.
