Gas burner continues clicking after on and flame active.

One of our dacor gas cook tops continues clicking after lit and flame burning. It does not do this when off. I have checked burner for proper assembly and anode looks good. Thinking must be in control panel under knobs? It's the most used (largest) burner.

Many ovens are made to click like that and nothing is wrong with burner oven, its a safety measure to let you know gas is on or escaping. I f you turn the knob bac or forward a little bit it will go off and flame will still burn. Other words you may have a dirty spark igniter , see pics

SOURCE: gas cook top

Most of the time when I come out for a service call with this problem, it is usually because the burner cap is not seated properly on the base. Look at the burner and make sure there are no uneven gaps. Most of the time you will have to rotate the burner cap till a notch or pin "seats" into place. Most burner caps just sit on the bases, and so they get knocked off or moved when the cooktop is cleaned or installed. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Clicking noise on cooktop even when all burners ignite

I have a viking gas cooktop. The ignitor on one of my front burners wouldn't stop clicking even after the flame ignited. I swapped that ignitor with the ignitor from a back burner, expecting that the problem was with the ignitor and that the back burner would start to click incessantly, but at least I'd have my favorite front burner for use. Instead, the front burner was then only clicking 50% of the time and the back burner was fine, suggesting the problem was related to the burner not the ignitor. I pulled the front ignitor a bit away from the burner and now it is working normally. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: VGSU 36" gas cook-top control panel paint coming off

I just bought a bank repo home in So. Cal. that has the same Viking range as you have. Yes, the black lettering has almost entirely rubbed off. on this one too. Not good for such an expensive product.

I bit the bullet and ordered a new panel from appliancezone.com

http://store.appliancezone.com

Part # PE40057

The price is about $75, $80 with shipping, which is a ripoff I know.

I plan to put a clear coat of sealer on it and let my wife know to treat it gently.

I was surprised how many people think Viking products suck. Lots of negative reviews abound on the internet. If I was to buy a whole new range I think I'd avoid this brand.

Cheers,

Andy Dale

My ignitor on my ge cooktop keeps clicking slowly in off mode

As it relates to 5 burner gas cooktop Model Number JGP 963SEJ1SS
First - Ignite the flame then reduce the flame to between low and medium.  If the igniter continues to click, you most likely have a contact switch issue related to the problem burner.
Unplug the cook top and turn off the gas.  After the gas is turned off, disconnect the gas line.
Remove the cook top.

Unscrew and Remove ALL of the burner bases by lifting them up.  The ceramic igniters may be difficult to remove but they will come loose if worked out slowly.
Pull of the wire connected to the igniter.
Remove to cook top top plate from the base, exposing the internal gas valves and wiring.
All of the burners are wired in parallel.   Lift off and unsnap the casing of the problem igniter switch.  The repair may require something as simple as, 1- cleaning the contact strips, or 2- slightly bending the non stationary contact strip to keep it from coming in contact with the stationary contact when in the off position, or 3- replacing the switch.
Unless you comfortable and understand how electric systems and switches work, this is a job for a qualified repair person.

Clicking

In addition to polishing up the end of the igniter as mentioned above, remove the burner cap cover and and the round burner cap. As noted above, electrical contact or grounding is an important element in the spark igniter function. Any poor contact surface can cause the igniters to continue to spark after a burner lites. If everything seems in order, polish the underside of the aluminum burner cap and the top side of the aluminum burner base (where they come in contact with each other). This is part of the grounding circuit for the igniters. I used an "SOS" pad. In our case, these parts had tarnished with age. My wife was very happy when I fixed this one.
