You have a vertical collapse. Not sure if its worth fixing because i don't know what type of set it is or how old. But vertical is not usually expensive to fix. Possibly just replace vertical ic

Sorry, this has no easy fix. The good news is you do not need an LCD Panel. The bad news is the Video Processor has a problem.
This TV has x3 Boards. The one you should replace first is the one in the middle. If this doesn't fix it, try the one on the right. The Part #s are on the Boards if you wanna try ebay.

it can be either the backlight inverter board or the power supply module is not supply 24vdc to the inverter board.

if screen is white, then i would say the screen driver has gone and would need replacing it is fitted to the back of the screen. and can get very hot. then just stop working.

Most likely suspect is the power supply board---transformers on that board can and do vibrate hard enough to cause this.

At our shop we either locate the part creating the sound and treat it to hot blue to muffle and remove the noise or if confirmed to be on power board--REPLACE THAT BOARD.

What AV connections are you using? some of the older composite cables will make your game systems play black and white on HDTV's. RGB connections are different than the old standard RWY cables.

JVC LCD TV (LT-42X688) input panel not working!

1. This TV has setting for the HDMI input that allows you to select the HDMI Audio or Analog(red/white wire) audio. Make sure this is correct

2. Most cable boxes are DVI not HDMI. If DVI then you actually do need to use those Red/white cables. If HDMI, refer back to #1.

3. The cable box has a setting to select the Audio output, HDMI (digital) or Analog(red/white cables). Just like #1, this has to be set.

4. Contact your cable company to help you set up the box correctly. JVC can probably help you check the TV

You most definately have bad capacitors in the power supply. try and get it repaired as soon as possible, not an expensive repair that iv'e seen.
