SOURCE: craftsman 1 gallon direct drive oil filled wont build air pressure

It sounds like you may have a broken reed on the diaphragm plate. This is located at the block. Remove the cover, and look for a cast metal assembly with fins. It will be attached to the side.

SOURCE: Dewalt 4 gal air compressor will not build pressure in take.

The bleed valve is an unloader of sorts that allows the compressor to start with-out a load. It closes when the pressure in the airline reaches about 20-25lbs with good volume. If air volume is not sufficient, the valve will not close. To solve the problem lets do a few tests. A long cord will reduce power and reduce air volume. Try powering the compressor with-out extension cord. If bleed valve closes when you do not use a cord, the compressor is not getting enough voltage, use shorter cord of the 12 gauge quality and more hose to reach work. If valve still does not close, check for air leaks on all fittings including around pressure switch and drain valve with soapy water. Repair as necessary and retest. If no leaks were found, temporarily plug bleed valve port with screw/bolt and run compressor till set pressure cut-off while counting minuites/seconds. The compressor should fill and shut off within three minutes or so. If it takes an unusually long time to fill, then the reed valves /valve plate is worn and leaking pressure back into cylinger. Leaking valves will usually result in very hot discharge airline/air. Reinstall the bleed valve after test. Parts and partslist are available at www.toolpartsdirect.com . Good luck on the repair and email if you have other questions.

SOURCE: Dewalt compressor will not build up pressure

turn on and tap the top of the pin lightly also with no air in tank pull up and down on pin spray lightly with wd40 never let anyone use this pin valve to release pressure it will ruin the valve if you still have problems you can get a new universal check valve off the shelf at lowes for around $6 make sure you use thread tape when reinstalling

Probably the check valve has failed. It apparently is where the pipe goes into the tank from the compressor.

APPROX. CUT-OUT PRESSURE 200 PSI (1379.0 kPa)
SCFM @ 90 PSI (620.5 kPa_ 5._

cant get fixya comment to work so will edit here...

The 200/160 are the typical DS55168 settings from factory and meet the 90 psi @ 5.4 cfm rating.

Pressures can be adjusted to a MAXIMUM 225/185 with a resulting lower cfm rate.

I'm not familiar with "type 9". Likely nothing special just different setting from factory?

I have a D55168 Dewalt compressor. Since I've had it, it has never shut off automatically and I've always shut it off manually at 200 psi. If I leave it alone, will it automatically shut itself...

Your concern is very well placed, at pressures that high a lot of damage can be caused by a failure. According to the manual for this model air compressor the approximate cut-in pressure is 160 psi and the approximate cut-out pressure is 200 psi. Meaning it should pump up to 'about' 200 psi and shut off and not come on again until it gets down to 'about' 160 psi. They say approximate and I say about because it's not an exact science setting the pressure switch. Spring rates are not always exact, pressure guages are not that precise, etc. When turned on, it should shut off at 200 psi +/- 10 lbs. If it goes more than 10 lbs over that (220psi), I'd recommend you get the pressure switch and or guages checked or replaced.

Dewalt D55168 air compressor runs until 95 psi and never stops. Pressure never goes above 95 psi. It use to stop around 140 psi.

Check for leaks all over the machine. Possibly the O ring on the drain valve is damaged. If the machine is oil-less, the big rubber O ring on the piston could be worn away.
When the machine is turned off can you hear air leaking from anywhere?

Wont build pressure past 60 psi

If you have oil-less type of compressor you may be leaking pressure past cylinder/piston ring or just air leak. Easy to check. Spray soapy water on all connections, first with pressure in tank and motor shut off, then once again with motor running/pumping. Repair as needed. If no leaks remove cover to motor and move piston to top of cylinder and examine condition. If you see scratches neer top of cylinder, then pressure is leaking past vinyl ring. If cylinder looks shiny and smooth and piston vinyl seal looks intact, suspect problem with reed valves or head gaskets. Parts are avilable at sears parts on the web. Good holidays expensive.

I have a dewalt D55168 air compresser. motor stays running ,air pressure won't go over 35 psi.. thanks , frank n2141s

Here is a parts diagram for the air compressor:

http://shoppingcart.msservicecompany.com/msservice_net/product_files/D55168/D55168_PL.pdf

There are a couple of things to look for on the air compressor.

You will need to see if the piston ring is damaged or if you have a broken reed on the valve plate.

These are typically the two most common problems with this model.

Compressor runs and runs but only builds 40lbs pressure

At the web address below you will find a parts list of your compressor. The most likely problem areas are the tube seal and the piston/cylinder. The tube seal seals the discharge tube to the head of the compressor. It will fail over time and cause the problem that you have. (only costs a few dollars) The other problem that you could have is a worn cylinder. Your compressor is oil free thus the piston ring is made of silicone vinyl and wears depending on conditions at the job site. Heavy dust/ dirt will shorten the life of the unit. With unit unpluged and covers removed, push the piston to top of stroke and examine upper portion of cylinder. If you see groves/scratches install cylinder kit. (cost around 39 dollars) In most cases I would replace both the seal and cyl kit. These parts are also available at your local dewalt service center or on line at dewalt.com. The folks at dewalt are very helpfull. Good luck with your repair and email if you have more questions.

D55168 lost compression while running

The dewalt model d55168 is a high-end oil-free compressor. Oil free compressors could have a short life span due to dusty or dirty conditions at the job site. The cylinder of your compressor is open from the bottom and will **** in debris scratching the cylinder/ silicone-vinyl piston ring reducing pressure. However the reduction in pressure will be over time till the point that the compressor will not reach cut-out pressure and just keep running. If you lost pressure suddenly to "0" then you probably lost the drive belt. A replacement can be found at a local dewalt service center or ordered thru www.toolpartsdirect.com. When you take down the compressor, be sure to examine the cylinder /piston for wear. These are the two most common problems. Good Luck on your repair and email if you have other questions.
