If you have not had it for the full warranty period, by all means. (I would call their Customer Service number first.) Here is the site for phone numbers:

SOURCE: Stovetop lamp sockets very brittle and are disintegrating.

In effect (given the unit is wired correctly) without insulation on the socket, you have an exposed neutral wire in your oven -- this is certainly not as dangerous as an exposed hot wire, but does present risks. I recommend replacing the light sockets -- you'll sleep and cook a lot better.

SOURCE: I purchased a Magic Chef under cabinet microwave

Since it's a clearance item, it may not have a warranty.

But you should check with Home Depot on that if you haven't already.

Otherwise, you'd have to have it repaired yourself.

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: Where can you purchase replacement

You use www.homelite.com part lookup for the HU80709. Homelite site doesn't list the a version but parts should be the same. www.jackssmallengine.com is excellent source for parts and is very reasonable on the parts.

Look on the sides and back for a small inspection door. At the corresponding place on the inside, should be an opaque cover where the light shines into the cavity. The inspection door normally has a single screw, remove it and unscrew the bulb. Replace with a new bulb and re-fix the door. An easy 5 minute job. There are no fixes for Power Packs once they go bad.
"Harry" wrote in with a work-around: He purchased inexpensive plug-in timer, set power pack to override, and then plugged power pack into wall timer.

Harry also said his power pack gave out after 4 years and he was negoiating with Malibulights.com for the 5 year warranty. No word how that was resolved.

Some guys write into fixya saying they took the timer apart and messed around with it, but I've never heard anyone say they fixed it. Once the little motors and gears malfunction, the motor slows down, and when motors slow, they overheat and lose power. New Power Packs at Home Depot are digital.

After hours looking for power pack solutions at Intermatic, Malubulights.com, ebay, Home Depot etc, the best I found were tips for next power pack that might save money:
The reason I add these tips now, before your power pack needs replacement is some fella wrote-in.
He bought 500 Watt power pack to replace 300 Watt > thinking bigger was better.
Power pack burned out. Here's why:
1) Match wattage of bulbs with wattage of power pack
-15 each X 20 watt bulbs = 300 watts, so install 300Watt power pack
2) Installing a 500W power pack on 300W of bulbs will burn out bulbs and power pack.
3) Replace bulbs as soon as they burn out or other bulbs will burn out and power pack will burn out.
4) When working on bulbs, unplug power pack or it may burn out.

My microwave cooktop lights keep burning out. why? i've changed the 10 watt low volt bulbs 4 times in the last 6 mos. each time being careful not to touch the bulbs with my fingers. they will work for...

Are you keeping them on all the time?

Or is the the microwave subject to excessive vibration or door slamming while the lights are on?

Both these conditions are factors in premature bulb failure.

I would also avoid cheap Chinese bulbs from grocery stores and get the GE-specified bulbs either from here online or a local home center such as Lowe's or Home Depot. etc.

The light bulb burned out in my Magic Chef microwave oven. I took the burned out bulb to Home Depot to buy a replacement. The manager recommended a different bulb that he said would work. I came home and...

It's possible that it is ruined, but the Home Depot guy should NOT have suggested a different bulb anyway--I would say contact the manager of the Home Depot store that you got the bulb from, and tell them what happened. If you can remember the employee's name, they might be able to help you better. This is something they should be able to compensate you for, because it was THEIR recommendation that may have ruined your microwave, therefore THEY are at fault, and should hold responsibility.

Good luck!

This Hampton Bay light fan fixture eats Light Bulbs

Read the manual to find out which size bulbs (base size and wattage) you need.

If you did use the right type of bulb and it lasted only 2 weeks, take them back to the store where you boght them for a refund.
