My top load washing machine seems to skip steps in the rinse cycle. Is this a timer issue?

We've had trouble in the past with the washing machine not spinning out after rinse, or clothes still soaked with soapy water after all is said and done. I removed the front panel and watched it go through a cycle in which it did run a final spin. Here are the steps the machine took: 1. Filled with soapy water then agitated at each dial marker (heavy, medium, light load). 2. Drained the soapy water until empty, but did not spin the soap water out. 3. Went to rinse cycle, but only filled up with water half the amount the wash cycle, but not enough to submerge all of the clothing. 4. Did not rinse and spin, just drained the half amount of water until empty. 5. Spin I was sure I've watched washing machines do a rinse while spinning in order to get all of the suds out of the clothing. This one did not. This particular time where I watched it, the clothing was spun out at the end, but as I mentioned earlier, that is not always the case.

Sounds like you need a new drive belt.

Fills with water, skips wash and rinse cycle, starts spin cycle and sprays water out of the top

I would look at lid switch on this model and plunger to lid .Under lid is spray flume that can be damaged by large loads ,check that close. put it in wash full and drop lid hard it may come on.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. oL flashes when the machine/motor control detects a load size that exceeds the washer’s capacity. Open the door lids to clear display, remove excess laundry, then restart the cycle. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Kenmore model # 110.244222300, Won't automatically complete wash

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action

Enter your model number (###.#######) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Following is a Whirlpool / Kenmore service manual for top load, direct drive washers.

Initial thoughts are that the Timer is worn / broken.

Here is a description of how to gain access to the console on these washers where you may be able to test the timer. (See the Whirlpool service manual for testing)

WASHER SHUTS OFF BEtween wash cycle and rinse

Sounds like you have a bad timer. Simply purchase the timer. Remove the screws on the backside of the control panel and remove the defective unit. Replace the timer keeping careful attention on the placement of the original wiring. Also, when you have trouble with the unit not running for rinse and spin cycles, it is generally a good idea to replace the lid switch as well.
