SOURCE: Furuno 1622 Radar dome spins inconsistently

This is a belt driven antenna. That would be the first thing to check, to be sure it’s not slipping. This should be easy to see if the motor is spinning but not the antenna that would be the problem.
I don’t recall if this model uses a “toothed belt” or not, but if it does check the entire belt for missing teeth, replace as necessary.
The next thing I would check would be the flywheel under the antenna. Check it for any signs of corrosion around the bearing. Remove the drive belt and slowly rotate the antenna see if you can detect any friction anywhere is you rotate the antenna. You could try a spray lubricant (like WD-40) but be careful of overspray, keep it off any electronics!
The next thing I would check would be corrosion on any power connections (all the way back to the main power and the fuse. Corrosion on any of the connections will lessen the current flow and make the drive motor weaker. Sometimes corrosion and salt can be cleaned off with a “contact cleaner” (or alcohol in a pinch) but if there is heavy damage you might have to replace the connectors completely. Be sure to remove all power before disconnection and connectors and be sure that they are dry before reapplying power.
Lastly (and most expensively) you might need a new motor.
If you operate in saltwater, corrosion on the connections would be my guess for the cause but I still would check these in order, from easy fix, to the expensive fix.
When you replace the dome be sure the O-ring gasket is in good condition and well lubricated with silicon grease before you close the unit. Replace the O-ring if you see (or feel) and nicks or compressions in the rubber. Take care that there are no twists in the O-ring when you reinstall it.

SOURCE: Hi, I have a Radar Screen. Furuno 1942 MK2 . What

A 1942 is a 6 kw radar a 1720 is either a 1.5 or 2.2 kw dome. The two will not work together. Besides the cabling is different. Also the radar cable on a 1942 is round where as the 1720 is square. The 1942 display should work fine on a 1943 navnet radar.

SOURCE: Hi, Furuno 1731 radar - no sweep/echo seen on

Go to longest range and full Gain min Rain and Sea Clutter
Do you have speckle? Yes = Receive OK, Wiring OK,No transmit (magnetron or modulator) No = Most likely a broken wire
There is a very tiny coax (shielded wire) that is know to lose its' center conductor, which is very delicate

No data at >1mile

If the unit is new and never been set up post installation, that's probably your problem. You have to go into the Installation Wizard and set the unit up properly. There are multiple choices of displays and scanner units to select to obtain the configuration you have. Then the radar has to be optimized (auto-tuned). If you don't have access to an installation manual and feel confident yourself, you'll need to contact a local Furuno authorized dealer or call Furuno USA tech support and they'll walk you through it. Their number is 360-834-9300

No heading pulse

Open the dome cover and check the belt that spins the array. Sometimes the gear on the motor that holds the belt comes loose and will not spin the array. I have seen this on 4 radars and all were about the same age. The gear has a small allen head set screw. Move the gear down and tighten the screw down. If you are still having issues there are some more troubleshooting techniques you can do, but you will need a multimeter to test voltages coming from the display.

I have a Furuno 1622 radar. It only shows a ring

I don't beleive this is goning to fix your problem. Open the dome and visually check that it is spinning. There is a maintenance menu though. To open the maintenance menu;
1. Turn the radar on.
2. Wait until the initial screen appears, then press and hold UP and DOWN keys together.
3. In about 10 seconds, the maintenance menu as shown below will appear.
4. Press MENU key to close the menu.

Our Radar Furuno 1715-24NM On. ( Power in Oke ) but can not show drawing in monitor/lcd. thanks. regard - damanik

If you have no radar targets, go to longest range 24 miles, gain full, rain and sea minimum, do you have noise, if so, need magnetron, if not, need cable from display to dome.

internal damage to the display, fixable by Furuno, and probably economically feasible (guess $250 with round trip to Furuno)

Furuno 1622 doesn't work, water coming out cable at screen!

yes the cable should be replaced if you are lucky, the unit is still OK (display) Try the new cable, draped across the boat before rigging. If fault exists with new cable, replace system, or find a new display on ebay
